Exhaust cross over pipe

I had a blowing noise start recently and black smoke on acceleration. On investigating I found the exhaust cross over pipe had split on the flexi pipe.
I have been told that a new pipe is around £600!!! I cant find anyone who is making a pattern one, has anyone else had this pipe split? Mine is a 54 plate diesel HSE disco3. I think £600 for a couple of feet of mild steel a little hard to swallow!

I believe it is a form of stainless pipe, and is available from dealer only, at £350 or so (or used to be, before Land Rover seen they were selling a few of them)

£350 was the price Land ranger svc in stockport gave me before they checked with L/R. you are right, it seems the stealers are profiteering big style!

Does any one have an old one?

Should we not as a group look to be like the MG club and get our own spares made, I know a local exhaust place that would happily copy the pipe in stainless, some stuff you can't, but this isn't hard to make up Thumbs Up

As the pipe has to come off, could you just not cut out the damaged piece of flexi pipe and weld in new piece Question
The flexi pipe is quite readily available in various sizes.
Just an idea Thumbs Up

They are a pig to remove and install. As we are are all aware you weld one piece of exhaust only to have it blow in another place a few weeks down the line. renewing is the only option in my opinion.

We were driving from Johannesburg to Port St John this weekend and became aware of a blowing from the exhaust. Decided to carry on to Durban and have it checked out. After about two hours on the road I needed to apply the brakes. Nothing much happened, felt like the servo had failed. Turns out that the COP had blown and the heat from the pipe melted the vacuum pump. This took less than three hours of driving from the time we heard the first blowing noises to brake failure. Feel lucky that we did not need to do an emergency stop at all, bit really hacked off at the expense. Curiously, I cannot find any reference to a COP in the Haynes on-line manual. Neutral

Geoff, are you able to change the COP as I think mine may have failed and you are the nearest to me.
