New Key

I have lost my spare D3 key, and need to know the best and cheapest route to get a replacement.

Anyone got any experience of replacing one?

geoff is quite correct in guiding you to a dealer as the best option.

In support and to assure you of the soundness of his advice, I would explain that while there are many keys sold on ebay that are described as new, but all too often these are second keys from new vehicles that although have been kept seperate for whatever reason and have never been used on a vehicle and so to the seller are "New", these keys have still been learned to a specific vehicle which is a one time only process and so cannot now be used on any other vehicle. Sellers dont know this and cover themselves with various comments, like needs programming by a dealer etc.

There are of course rare exceptions where someone ordered a key from a dealer but never collected it, but the likelyhood of this makes it a gamble which on top of the fact that you would need to order a Key blade blank and get it cut to suit your locks makes it all far more risk and trouble than it is worth.

In respect of dealers and costs, for years many members have all turned to TLO, the parts manager at Yeovil Land Rover who gives a 20% discount to all forum members, however right about now he is leaving them to do his own thing.

You will have to check with him to see if he is still there and or if there is a replacement etc.

Of course as geoff also correctly states, even when you have a new key, someone will need to learn this to your D3 with appropriate diagnostic equipment.

Tlo still there, cut a key for me in two days including delivery. Local indy paired it to the car and it took him less than two mins. Think all up it cost £135 all in. Landrover wanted £270!

I recently used a company called autolocksmith and they did a key for my wife's C-Max on site for £145 all in. I asked about D3 keys and she said, she could do them and I scribbled the price down on a bit of paper, but I can't remember how much it was. It wasn't astronomical though Smile

The lady who came to do it was also very pretty too Smile

The word from my dealer is..

Price for KEY (which comes pre-cut to your VIN number from Neovia, Desford) is £164.94 including VAT.
We require pre-payment for this as it will fit your vehicle ONLY. (We need your VIN number for this).
This is Unprogrammed.

The cost for tuning this key in our workshop is £66.00 including VAT (which can be paid for after tuning) and your vehicle would require to be booked in at a convenient time for yourself and also to ensure our computerised equipment for doing so is available. This can be done while you wait (about 45 minutes).

All in its sounding like an expensive loss...

A 20% discount which TLO offers brings this to £132
And I am pretty sure that any MV MSV-2 owner would learn it to your vehicle for a sufficient quantity of Beer Thumbs Up

How it can take them 45 mins i dont know? The dude at my indy did it in less than 5 mins to pair the key. however not sure why but my mirrors reverted to auto dip with the new key so had to re set up the car. Also sound a shed load of new features resetting it !
