London to Aberdeen 1 x Full tank.
just completed half of the half terms hols and thought i'd check the fuel economy on way back from our trip .
After filling up up on the A41 london shell station and with a full car of baggage and family, with variable speeds 40mph- 70mph
Route A41 - M1 drop in by Hemel Hempstead - M1 - M6 - Glasgow - Dundee got to Stracathro with 60 mile range left in tank and bottled it and topped up. By time i got to west of Aberdeen the calculation based on range indicated i had 10 miles left. Final trip count 540 miles
I,m happy with that, the car also had the 8yr service done before hand so all running smooth. Why does every page of the manual have fingerprints?

I stopped in at Stracathro to fill up once, on the way back from Aberdeenshire.
Had 10 miles range left. Saw the price , stuck in £5, and limped it into Dundee. Made it to the Shell on the Forfar road just as the trip dropped to 0 miles My D3 Build Thread

So if it was 540 miles on one tank what consumption does that make? If based on consuming the full theoretical 82 litre tank capacity that makes around 29mpg.
However I manage to fill up with around only 66 litres when the gauge shows ~20 miles range but total capacity is 82 litres which, allowing for another 3L for range decaying to 0, indicates there is an 'unusable' buffer of around 12 litres.
So your consumption could be as good as 34mpg. Not bad considering the bulk as you say. And were you relaxed at the end?

In the old clocked D3 .... I did close to the 540 miles twice .... or was it 440
It was a manual though .... same day motorway driving...
Trying with the new auto to see what I get

Was showing for the most part on the trip 30-31mpg. mix of shell and BP fuel for the week and a good slug of millers additive. Why does every page of the manual have fingerprints?

I hope to be getting better mileage now on long cruises ahead, both uk & sur la continent, as now gong to change to super diesel. I usually get 10% better mileage on the good juice but will see if that's the same now. Plus the car runs much more smoothly.
Just don't tell SWMBO.

DSL, so if 500m is attainable with std Shell or BP does the cost premium get outweighed by the extra miles eg 50 gained?

I was in no rush to get home that day, as well as being diverted, due to a "liquid" spill on the Forth bridge, so took a detour via the Clakmannan bridge, and the scenic route via Powmill. And stuck behind various artic lorries. It all helps My D3 Build Thread

But you will also be £30 or £40 less to fill up than a D3 from indicated empty, the only time it cost me over £100 was when it was £1.42 a litre, its normally around £95 with the yellow light on.
