Soft T40 Torx bolts - Help needed

I set about last weekend trying to swap my front seat pads over as the drivers was pretty worn and the passenger one less so. Any way I very quickly ran into the problem of the torx head I was using (T40) stripping the bolt so they are now useless and seemingly cannot be gripped. I even removed the passenger seat to try and get a better purchase but again the same thing happened.

Does any one have any ideas how I can get these blasted little blighters out without having to completely dismantle the complex seat and saw / drill them out?

T45?- these little blighters are very deceptive on size and I am with Bodsy you have mis-judged the size, try using the next size up in a socket and hammer it in if possible.

It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Peen them down carefully then tap-down a correct sized torx and work them loose.

OK guys thanks for your help - it looks like I may have ruined them anyway. I guess its a seat out and dismantle on the passenger side to then drill and hack saw them off. I've managed to get the drivers one out after many cuts and bruises!

Take the seat out and lay it on it's side so you can gain access to the screw heads then use a good long thin chisel and a decent hammer and tap the edge of the mushroom head, they will come out then, no need to cut them or grind them.

I have had to do this with loads of them now, as you have found out the screws are very soft and even with the correct size of bit they just rip the splines out.
