Auto gearbox warning lights

I am a new member though have been directed here by a couple of pals who have Land Rovers.. I have Disco 2 TD5 ES (51 reg) and the M and S lights are flashing which indicates an electrical problem with the auto gearbox. It appears to be stuck in sport which will please all shell and BP station owners and I don't seem to be able to select M mode nor 3 2 or 1.

Any thought as to what this is and how to fix?

Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong place. Please direct me to the correct place if I am not

Many thanks

Mark

Most M+S faults on the D2 can be traced to the position switch, on the side of the box.

Not cheap though Shocked

Also, If you have a D2, this probably isn't the best place to ask although I reckon many members here have had D2's.

Check out the D2boys club, It's very similar to this forum and but specific to the D2 and has some seriously knowledgeable members.

Good bunch of guys and very helpful and unlike some LR forums, you won't get a slagging off
for asking questions that an experienced D2 fettler knows.

I'm still a member, despite passing on my D2 to my son as the pool of knowledge is huge and I'm still expected to know everything about the D2, which I don't but the D2BC boys will most certainly.

Thanks all. Lets hope its just the battery and not the positioning switch. I will join the D2boys forum as well.

I will keep on here as I will no doubt be trading up at some stage.

Cheers,

Mark

You can remove, strip, clean and reassemble the position switch to get some more life out of it. Mine lasted another 12 months after I did it and then water started getting in past the seal on the position shaft. Check the d2 forum on aulro.com for pictures.

Check the routing on the air conditioning drains, if these are dripping into the switch then that can shorten its life significantly.
