Bank Holiday Transmission Fault
Hi all, looking for some advice for what may be a common fault, my (08-D3) when I stop and put in park my key will not come out. The gear P.R.N.D selector lights are off. This has been temperamental and sometime a switch off/on sorts it and the selector lights come back and I can remove my key in Park.
Any suggestions would be grateful on a bank holiday weekend of all times
With the horrific traffic forecasts I think I'd stay at home & fix it next week.

I know it's the usual response but have you checked if your Brake lights are all working?
Mine had a hissy fit when I had a blown bulb.
It would allow me to take the key out of the ignition whilst the car was still running, similarly i'd have issues with not being able to remove the key with it in P.

has the corregated gator around the lever dropped down?
this can catch on the locking pin (the one that clicks when you press the brake pedal)
lift up the whole surround by the gear lever (just un clicks from front to back)
if it fixes the key issue, then its the sliding gator thats catching inside and needs lifting up

Corroded splice joint in the N/S sill
Next time it does it, switch the sidelights on and off, the key will come out no bother then My D3 Build Thread
