What to do about rear lower suspension bush MOT fail
First MOT fail at 8 yrs so not complaining.
Question is whether to just replace the rear bushes or replace the rear arms on both sides based on overall parts and labour costs of each.
MOT test centre only does testing, no repairs, and tester showed me the play in the NSR wheel with the car up on the lift. It is a genuine fail.
Took the car to the garage where tester's own D3 is having its EGRs done and they have lots of work and a good shop so looks sound. Quoted 3 hrs or £150 +VAT to do it Wednesday.
Bushes are approx £8 whereas arms are £190 RHS and £130 LHS so looks like a no brainer for the bushes route unless I'm missing something.
Any comments appreciated before I source bits on Monday.VR6 > 330D Touring > D3 HSE > !?XC90?!

Are you sure it's the lower arm?
If you've never had the upper rear arms changed then I would be inclined to suggest that the movement is coming from the front bush of the upper rear arm rather than the lower arm.
A small amount of movement is expected from these bushes but upper rear arm bushes have been known to crumble into a pile of dust once removed from the car.
Replace the whole arm, IMO. About £90 for a complete arm from here, Paul:

Upper rear arms replaced just over a year ago by DiscoMikey.
Was definitely lower arm on near side. Saw it wobble with my own eyes.VR6 > 330D Touring > D3 HSE > !?XC90?!

The plus point is the bolts very rarely seize in the bushes, so they arms at least come off in 1 piece.
You have to weigh up the Labour cost of replacing the bushes, with the parts cost of replacing the arms My D3 Build Thread

Clarification. It's the lower bush that holds the arm onto the hub and they're £37 each. This is the one that doesn't come with the arms so I'll go for bushes not arms and update Wednesday.VR6 > 330D Touring > D3 HSE > !?XC90?!
