Timing belt tensioner

My D3 as done 129000 miles full service history cam belt was done @ 96000 but I am getting worried that I am going to get the tensioner failure , should I contact Landrover & ask them to change at there cost & if they refuse & the engine is scrapped surely they should replace the engine f o c ? Question

i don't think u will get anything out of LR i think its far better to prevent it happing the try and fight if/when it does

I was just thinking if noted via emails then they could not use a get out of jail card, as there seems to be a problem that they want to keep out of the press as bad press effects sales

Yes they could but surely they should av done a recall , it's shortly due a service so I will be contacting LR customer services & see what the say as common sense tells me that a tensioner & oil pump is a lot cheaper then 50% of a engine change, I love my D3 & don't want to be driven away from a great vehicle

Did you get a reply?
My 07 is in today for belts and pump, I asked land rover and was told there is no fault so no fix unless it does fail then they will consider my case, I did point out it must better to replace the pump than an engine but they don't care. I have asked to see my pump after it is changed to see if I can see any sign of cracking. If there is I will take things further.

Stephen, if I were you, I would just get the pump casing changed anyway. Ask for the old parts to be retained and take it from there.

If nothing else, you will have peace of mind...

For me, I got my pump changed as a preventative measure - as I read up on here that it may be an issue for my MY vehicle, so it made sense. If it fails now - I have some come back, as the vehicle was taken to a dealer, and all pulleys etc were done at the same time as the oil pump.

With the above, I am personally struggling to see once we openly admit we know of a potential issue - how we can then lay the blame fully at LR for it failing and resulting in a blown engine. I am also trying to get my head around why we would take the risk knowing what we all know, especially when I look at the cost to replace the pump, which is minimal compared to a none guaranteed, 50% offer of goodwill towards another engine?

If however you take the pump off - then find it fractured etc, you could then take your case up with LR to cover the cost of the part and labour, as you can prove the part was iminantly going to be a catastrophic engine failure due to this component.

However, as you do not know for certain at this point of time that the part on your vehicle is one of the faulty ones, I would be more inclined to approach them to cover the labour part - and you offer to pay for the parts, which I would say is more than fair, as in all reality - it is still running some 33000 miles post belt replacement, which when reading the posts about failure, it looks like they fail quite soon after replacement of the belts?

Just my thought on this, but I do feel we have some responsibility towards this - and as the failing part is only circa £80 for genuine LR, I simply do not see why anyone would hold out and play russian roulette with their vehicle.

I have spoken to customer services at lr and at my cost it's going to be crack checked at service the end of the month if no fault found will be replaced at my cost if craked or showing any sign of failure call was logged & I have been given direct number as they do know about the issue so thinkers crossed they will pay for replacement

I had cam belt change inc all belts even back belt and oil pump casing as advised on here back in nov 2012 just failed last week. All genuine lr parts but was done at my local garage as lr didnt realy want to bother with casing as it wasnt a known fault. Its with lr now but they cant look at it until next week. Lr have been very helpfull at the moment asking for receipts for the parts and the invoice from the garage so fingers crossed.

Yep, landrover told me where to go. They will not be helping me at all. Has been with them now for over 3 months. I will never buy a landrover ever again and will let everyone know about these problems.
