No turbo pickup & noisy air intake |
|
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place....
But having problems with my D3. when accelerating the air intake seems like it's clogged and making a whistling noise. Also noticed when on the motorway at 70mph in 6th gear the car is flat and will not accelerate to a higher speed.. Could it be a turbo problem?
Any help would be great.
Regards Lewis

Hi Lewis, a quick search for 'split intercooler hose' will throw up a heap of threads, some of which contain pics. one thread also mentions a split manifold as a possible cause too, but let's hope you don't have to go there.
good luck,
Tim

If you're not getting a James Bond style smoke screen then it doesn't sound like an intercooler hose. I think you need to get your codes read for a proper steer.

Yeah looks like she's going in for fault finding....
Yeah looked at the air filter which actually wasn't even fitted properly (orange foam edging reshaped close to the inner side of the filter. Might go and get another and see if it makes any difference.
Thanks again Lewis

I'm hoping it was changed last may/June when I bought the car and the garage 'serviced' it after the MOT. Could it be the fuel filter?

There are three hoses to check. I think the large one on the offside of the radiator which you have changed is a common one to split but the smallest (and most difficult to access) which attaches onto the turbocharger is also prone to splitting. I had two split on me on my old D3. Lack of power and a whistling noise from in front of the passenger footwell were my vehicle's symptoms. Are you sure your whistling noise is coming from the other side? If so, it won't be one of the other inter cooler hoses.
