Is there any hidden damage underneath the bumper? That's what I would be worried about.
Going to be an expensive repair on the Lexus with all those aor bags going off.Cheers Ian

Having a towbar fitted transfers more of the energy directly into the chassis, raising the chances of bending it...My D3 Build Thread

When it happened to me the repair company replaced the rear cross member as they couldn't guarantee it hadn't been cracked and as that's where the removable tow bar engages they didn't want to take the risk. As above I had very minor damage compared to the transit connect that hit me

What I would say is that the front of cars are designed to crumple quite significantly to meet pedestrian crash test requirements. I believe this is the reason the Defender is being discontinued as it can't be designed to meet the requirements going forward.
Makes the car that took the impact at the front look as though it came off far worse.

and on the same subject, many years ago when I sold cars for Volkswagen, a young, not unattractive female came into the showroom and pointed at the back of a Golf and said:
"Are these strong at the back & have do they have plenty of protection? I was banged from behind very hard about 3 months ago and I'm still quite sore."

Very true. I've read articles about how a tow bar affects the rear crumple zone of the vehicle that it's fitted to and the crumple zones of the vehicle that makes contact.
At higher speeds the stats were frightening. Can't remember them, but the risk of death and serious injury were significantly increased.
I always remove mine as soon as possible after towing.
