Castrol Magnatec £20 4ltr at Asda.

As above, fully synthetic 5W 30 A1. Seems like a good price?
BTW how much does the 2.7 need for a service?

You need 6L to do a oil change Thumbs Up

I've ordered some halfords 5/30 to give a try. £10 for 4L at the moment...

Thanks Thumbs Up will be buying some of this. My mechanic told me yesterday that the oil for an oil change would cost £80.00. Not sure were he's getting from.

Cheers, just checked (as I should have done if I hadn't been so lazy) 5.7ltr. So 2 needed leaving plenty for top ups. Or 3 for 2 changes.

It is a good price Very Happy For what it's worth, I would get enough for a couple of changes at that sort of money.

Having said that, Steve at Advanced Factors sells it normally for £21.

As for your mechanic Dave, don't know where the £80 has come from unless he is thinking Castrol Edge or getting the oil from Land Rover haha Thumbs Up

Chris.

Magnatech is ok but castrol edge is the daddy of all oils @ £30 /4l.
Take it from an audi tdi owner with chocolate camshafts! Thumbs Up

Edges only advantage in reality is its suitable for engines with a DPF, as a D3 has got one....... Whistle

At 3 quid a litre that's a bargain ! It's almost worth buying a 125 litres of the stuff ! Oh wait ! I've been there with the 2T oil !

But seriously, you could use that for flushing the engine out at that price

I use it in my Audi tdi because it meets VW 507 spec for long-life service but i change it a 6k/12m. This engine is notorious for eating camshafts with the wrong oil!
Obviously not relevant for the D3 which has its own foibles but just stating it is THE best oil Castrol do so can't hurt Thumbs Up

Agree with Chalky, it would make a viable flushing oil at that price Very Happy
