Well...I'm out of here...

I've made many friends on here, got help from many others and had some great laughs. To all of those I say thankyou.

Unfortunately, we still can't provide help to everyone on a public internet forum that I thought was supposed to be there for enthusiasts. Seems being selective in responses to people (those who ask genuine questions and who are looking for the best for their Discovery) is more important than providing unbiased advice.

As someone recently said to me "I look around and the tech support is less...and many good and knowledgeable people have decided to leave..."
The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

That's a shame.

I've had so much from this forum over the years it will take many more years of me trying to repay it back where I can to settle the balance. I will be around for a good while yet; another 5 years anyone?

And why do you think that is?....There are a few to many people on here that are keen to discredited anyone who comes up with a dot of information. Ive worked on and been involved with these cars since the start yet my information is worthless when the next person says your talking Censored
I dont bother anymore.

You also have the other problem where you have halfwits asking ridiculous question, which, to be quite honest with you, makes me lose interest.

Unless it's one which is covered in the driver handbook, something you need to know in order to pass a driving test, or something which could be deduced from a mild application of common feckin sense.

"Oh, this little red light's come on. What should I do?" Answer. RTFM !

Or......

"I've just put metal polish in my dinner. Will it kill me?" Answer. Maybe call a Doctor instead of asking in a forum for cars ??

I think the point made by Packingstrips is valid. There's way too much inconsequential babble to trawl through, 95% of which is covered in the stickies, except there's way too many lazy B'stards who seem incapable of using a search and reading the results. This is definitely something which makes the knowledgeable less likely to post and then that further dilutes the overall quality. Ever decreasing circles.

Oh and too much politics as well, mainly it seems because 2 people can't get along.

JF --- Sorry to see you go but not in the least bit surprised.

mzplcg....fair points, all of them ..but to condemn people less knowledgeable as "lazy" is IMO unfair....how difficult is it to grow lettuce ?.....or bake bread...answer very easy, but how many people do it...very few.
The modern way is to get someone more informed/knowledgeable/motivated or with more time to do it for you...that may not be the perfect solution, but it surrounds us every day.....Why else would the vast majority of car-owners need routine servicing done at a garage ?
I totally agree that it is up to the more mechanically minded on here whether they want to share their mechanical experience or technical expertise with the less able or informed,and.... God bless 'em...many of them do.
I was directed to this website by a friend of a friend (I would imagine he is a current member, due to his high praise)and it has given me the confidence to have a go at things that a few years ago I would never have thought possible....I have asked a couple of "daft" questions along the way but without fail, the answers have been polite and informative......long may that continue....
