Welcome to Discovery Ownership
Hi all. So, I've had the car for six weeks, and got the restricted performance error along with the engine management light. I have a Motor Easy policy so called them and dropped it off at their chosen garage this morning. They have just emailed the following:
We have inspected the car and found:
MANIFOLD SENSOR FAULT
MASS AIR FLOW FAULT
TURBO CHARGER BOOST PRESSURE LOW
POSS CRACK IN ROCKER COVER
They've only spent an hour on it and want authorisation for four hours' labour (likely at my cost) to dismantle enough to make a proper diagnosis.
Can anyone offer any advice?

At least here “all” issues within a reasonable time (~ 6 months) are usually thought of having been present at purchase time and would be the seller’s responsibility to fix. If the value of the car increases as a result of that then they can request that you pay something. Not sure how it is in UK but I would assume you have fairly good consumer protection laws, too.

Was the dealer a JLR franchisee, I assume not as they come with a 2 Year unlimited mileage Approved Warranty.
Is the car on some form of finance?

Suspect is inlet manifold. O/S tends to go first followed by N/S after about 15k miles. Happened to me and plenty of others out there. Some have successfully tapped their main dealer up for the works, other (mostly) don't have any such luck.
At your mileage, I would be inclined to have both replaced if they haven't already.
But, as others have said, I would say this was inherent at sale and you need a chat to the seller.

Not sure what to think about Motor Easy or any warranty company. How long have you had the warranty on this particular vehicle? The full six weeks or less?Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Villager, that's all the same fault codes as mine and the same symptoms. Mine was diagnosed as a cracked inlet manifold last week and is in for both manifolds to be swapped on Thursday.
Was the warranty bought by you or the supplying garage?
If by you, then you need to involve the supplying dealer as it's their issue to fix (faults within the first six-months are the responsibility of the supplying dealer to prove weren't present when bought, not for you to prove they were).
Does driving the car gently and slowly prevent the restricted performance message?

I bought the warranty three weeks ago.
Yes the symptoms are as you describe, Sheepy.
Getting the car to London would be a pain. I'm guessing I can't have the work done locally then claim it back from the supplier..
If you only bought the warranty 3 weeks ago, they may not be interested either! Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Member of Gloucestershire & Worcestershire 4x4 Response.

I brought my D3 in Sussex it had a few problems and we agreed that because I’m in Cornwall I could get the work done locally and the dealer would pay for the work.
Depends on your dealer I guess

Soooo....
This is the sequence of events so far...
1. Warning lights appear, so I call ME and get the car booked in to a garage of their choice (I stupidly bought the cheaper policy where I can't choose the garage)
2. I am charged £72 for the "diagnosis" which as far as I can tell amounts to reading the fault codes
3. I am told they need to dismantle part of the engine to give a full diagnosis, which will cost me four hours' labour (£270). Thinking this essentially a downpayment on the repair, I agree.
4. ME call to say the garage can't repair the car because they don't have the equipment. The best price they can find for me elsewhere is £1,400.
5. I collect the car. Garage owner says he'd have to take the body off and it would have taken 3 days. Car stinks of cigarettes.
5. I drive the car away, and after three miles I lose power, and pull over to find a puddle of diesel. The garage come out, and one of the plastic fuel pipe thingies (anyone know the technical term?) on the top, offside of the engine has come off - it appears two of the retaining lugs have been broken off during the "work" done. I am invited to drive the car back the garage, but won't be letting them anywhere near it again, so drove home, stopping a couple of times to pop the plastic thing back on when I lost power again.
6. I call West4x4 (as recommended by another forum member) who say the inlet manifold failure could have been confirmed by a simple smoke test. They also quoted me a little over £800 for the repair.
Now, I feel like I've been properly shafted here. I've paid out £342 and all I've got to show for it is a stinking interior and a car that's even more broken than it was before.
Am I justified in complaining to ME here? I get that I agreed to the diagnosis fee and the subsequent "confirmation diagnosis", but I've relied on them to help me get it fixed in the absence of it being a covered component, and they've sent me to a garage that have effectively charged me to tell me they can't fix it, and insulted me with an outrageous quote for the repair. How am I supposed to trust them with anything else that happens?
