Did you take that pic, Dave? If so, could you please confirm the grid ref of the sign???

United Kingdom 2010 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE Auto Buckingham BlueDiscovery 4

We drove this many years ago in my LR Series 3 excellent area to play in. IIRC the main path bears right and there is an area straight on that turned out to be private land according to a private security guard who approachedand asked us to stick to the byway

As others have said that sign doesn't look very official Exclamation

OS is SU 010 455

It's definitely NOT closed but there is a huge amount of off-piste activity around there. I know a man who will know the history of the sign - waiting to hear back from him Thumbs Up

As an aside, there's a new TRO on Shrewton 13 at The Gibbet on the A360 NW of Shrewton. Not on the website yet, the TRO came into effect on 02 October and remains in force until April 2015. If taking Shrewton 11, which crosses 13, be aware there are no signs at the point where the lane crosses. I've raised it with the GLASS rep.
Thumbs Up

Just to be clear, the flooded ECU belongs to a different Gareth with a Defender, not this Gareth and his rather lovely series

I know there are loads of road planings by this byway. I spoke to a good friend of mine who is a fairly important in the civvy company set up, that run the Plain on behalf of the MOD.

I sent him a mail asking about the sign and if the byway was closed and what the planings were about. This was his rather unambiguous answer

Hi Matey, no, It’s not closed but they are gonna use the road planings to try and solve the problem that exists by numpty’s using it as a playground.

Sort of says it all in 1 clear sentence

Unfortunately English Nature have stepped in on the road planings idea so it's back to the drawing board for a more acceptable repair solution.

I don't believe tanks use that byway. There are plenty nearby they use, but not that one.

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

VA's crossing is indeed now closed. Temporary closure in place from the German village to the crossing until April 2015

Byways are Chitterne 1 and 2

http://php.wiltshire.gov.uk/row/closures/closure_search.php

Shrewton 13 and a linked Tilshead route are also course

I'll add to the laning section but please spread the word as these lanes are massive magnets for those looking for a mud fest.
