I recently got a set of 17" alloys for my HSE which I'll use for off-roading, so I don't scratch the 19" wheels.
When changing them over on Friday, I took these pictures. It may help any owners of base models who are thinking of upgrading their wheels.
The D3 really suits the larger, more chunky wheels!
PS. The car was in extended mode suspension height here, due to being just jacked up.Matt
Interesting point on wheels........?
At a recent event I was running the 17inch wheels in your picture. Slimer was running 19inch wheels.
Whether it was just bad luck or what , but Simon did suffer with larger amounts of mud depositing it'self on the inside of the rims, making road driving virtually impossible. I did much the same routes as Simon nad did not.
Puzzle eh?.

Interesting to see both wheels fitted at once. On the top pic. the 17" wheel looks as if it could be a space saver spare, it appears to be so much smaller than the rear 19" wheel.
It a case of looks over praticality I think. There is greater clearance with the 19" so more mud can get in but with the solid spokes it's harder for it to get out. The 17" let less mud in and what does get in has an easier job of getting out.
At the event Nick's talking about I ended up taking both front wheels off (thank goodness for the air-jack!) and cleaning several kgs of mud off them that was severely hampering on-road driving.
I'll stick with the 19" for now but may go back to 17" at some point in the future if there's more tyre choice availableThe End

It is a case of looks, given the rolling size of both 17 and 19 tyres is the same.

Matt, do U just use your 19" alloy as a spare with the Coopers? I've got 4 17s that I was going to put Coopers on but don't have a 5th 17" as a spare. Size doesn't seem to differ too much, only 1.5% so only "get U home" job.
