'twas a reet grand day oot
It was a bit of a grey day, not very inspiring for photography but perfectly suitable for a bit of green laning in the fringes of the Yorkshire Dales.
I thought I should arrive a bit early at the car park at Ripley so got there about 9.20 to find that Beasty and steve smith had beaten me to it.
Wollemi and smithie1623 turned up very soon afterwards.
After introductions and greetings we headed north to Bishop Thornton and Gillmoor Lane, then through Warsill to the lane that travels NW near Fellbeck.
Then a bit of a road trip through Laverton and Kirkby Malzeard to Grewelthorpe and Wreaks Lane. Despite the recent rain, the ford was very low.
A short run north on the road took us to Ilton where we turned west across Ilton Moor / Fountains Earth, a lovely long lane (about 14km) with some fantastic scenery and no real difficulties.
To add abit of extra length, we took a detour south down Fountains Earth Moor and across the bridge before climbing back up Sype Land.
Down the road then up to Middlesmoor and In Moor Lane over to Scar House Reservoir.
It was quite a rough climb up In Moor Lane and an even rougher descent towards Scar House. One particularly prominent rock on the descent claimed the only victim of the day - me . Fortunately I was able to deploy my secret waffle board and extract myself without needing a tow. Some further shunting and sliding and I got past the rock with only a minor scrape on my cill (at least I have a genuine excuse to get some rock sliders now ). With the aid of the waffle board as a ramp, wollemi very slowly and carefully made it over the rock with no damage then everyone else thought bu er that and went round on the grass and avoided it all together.
I was too busy to take any photos of me getting wedged on the rock - maybe one of the others captured my misfortune.
We dropped down to the car park at Scar House for a stop and some lunch. After lunch, we took the road back down to Lofthouse then over the hill and past Leighton Reservoir before turning north west and taking the lane past Spout House before turning west on Coal Road - a nice easy lane despite what seems like every gate in the country on the one lane!
Taking the road back through Gollinglith Foot & Healey, my navigator fell asleep and missed the intended turning so we went round in a loop and drove Low Moor Lane in the opposite direction to planned. It was an easy lane which ever direction.
Having just lost an hour of daylight, the gloom was starting to develop so we decided there was only really time for 1 more lane. We headed north through Leyburn and finished the day with a run over Redmire Moor.
The drive through the old ruins of Cobscar Mill at dusk was a very atmospheric way to end the day.
All in it was a very enjoyable day out and thanks to everyone who came along - it was great to meet you. MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Looked like a great day out, and great pictures.
Could I recommend if you plan on doing this route again, stop at The Crown Hotel in Middlesmoor for lunch. We have always had great food here even if Malcolm the owner has a typical Yorkshire sense of humour.
We often ( well at least 2-3 ) times a year rent Holmlea cottage in Middlesmoor, the last house on the left heading up towards Scar reservoir so know this area reasonably well.

I suspect that if I stopped at the Crown for lunch, a very large quantity of Black Sheep would prevent me from leaving until closing time MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Some more great pictures from the day, how much do I have to pay to make the one of me getting stuck disappear forever
Good to know that everyone enjoyed the trip
