Turbo crossover pipe

Took my D4 into JAS Land Rover at Everingham for timing belt, fuel pump belt, Gearbox megaflush, Diff & transfer box oil change. While trying to remove the fuel pump belt cover they found it was melted, off comes the body to find the turbo cross pipe left side cracked & blowing on the belt cover, lucky it wasn`t the right n blowing on the wiring loom! Car now drives silky smooth again, I would recommend JAS to anyone. Thumbs Up

I suspect mine might be blowing (but might be something else).

Did you notice any symptoms?

Mine has a whooshing noise but ONLY while the first turbo is in use. Soon as the second turbo kicks in, silence?

Anyway, how much extra did the crossover pipe change cost?

(funny really, as mine is in in 2 weeks for the belts etc)

Turbo crossover pipe

Evening Philip1972, the pipe cost an extra £370 plus gaskets etc., the body has to be lifted to get at it, I cant say I noticed any drop in power due to a rather fine split in the corrugated flex in the pipe, making a small `jet` type of hole. Could have been a lot worse had it being on the RH side though. On a more worrying note, apparently its becoming more and more common.

Turbo crossover pipe

On the crossover pipe there`s a corrugated flexi piece at each side, mine split on the left, blowing onto the fuel pump belt & its covers, it melted the plastic covers. On the right side it would have blown onto either or both a fuel pipe and wiring loom. I wonder if this could be the cause of some D4`s going up in flames at the roadside often seen on F`book etc? Either way I`m pleased I got mine done when I did.

If you look up JAS Land Rovers on f`book you should be able to find pictures of mine after the body lift & during belt & cover replacement.

Understand stand now. Clearly neither side good but fuel pipe ... doesn't bear thinking about.

The cross over pipe is a Censored design as regards the “flexible” joints. The insulation falls to bits and the bracket either gets left off during work as it’s a cow to refit with the body on or because it’s stainless it cracks apart anyway. I’ve actually got to take the body off mine because of this. I’ve had a jig made and have removed the flexible joints and replaced with better quality braided ones. I’m then going to wrap the pipe with the exhaust wrap stuff. I’ll dig some pics out.

If anyone has old broke ones laying around i’ll Gladly take them for postage/site donation. Thumbs Up

Seen as it’s stamped “Ford” and the engine is also used on a citroen has anyone priced one from them ? Just wondering if they were cheaper... Land Rover parts prices and all that.

Reviving an old thread here but can I ask, was the sound almost like a dump valve, or air swooshing when you took your foot off the accelerator?

Do you remember? what was the cause/fix please?

What you are describing sounds like the TSOV, that is located under the radiator at the drivers side, they are known to seize up and stick. Its a straight forward job to remove and free up most of the time.

Flack Thumbs Up
