It's the vehicle's plated gross train weight that dictates the speed limit. Even if you are towing a Tesco trolley with a D3/D4 you are limited to 90 kph.
I normally keep up with the HGVs - any faster and you start to chew too much fuel.MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

I just had an email from the Caravan Club offering a deal on the Liber-T transponder so thought I'd have another look. The first thing I saw was they don't apply to vehicles with a GVW of 3500kg or more. When I paid manually last year, apart from being able to grope the wife as she paid the toll, the auto tolls saw my set up as a class 2 (ie under 3500kg) and not a class 4 (over 3500kg). I assume the Liber-T system has no way of checking? How would you wriggle out of that one if stopped with a transponder on a 4300kg rig? FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

I checked my liber-t (APRR) invoice for last summer. Travelling with D3 and tintent, always invoiced as class2. Usually took the HGV lanes.
It is scary to drive through with 20 kph but it works a treat!

D4 + caravan is from my understanding is class 2 as the GVW of the Discovery is under 3500kgs - the weight of the caravan doesn't seem relevantD4 2010 HSE Santorini Black

Yep - just logged on to my APRR.FR and I was charged 1.4 euro for the active month (not charged at all rest of year just the month you use it)
Then charges were as Class 2 - so EUR39.20 From Calais to West Coast of Brittany.MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)

I applied as per Dubbs instruction, very easy and I now have a transponder winging it's way to me at a cost of €11 joining fee plus €10 postage. I then pay €1.70 for each month used, no yearly fee mentioned at all and the monthly for a third of the UK websites cost.
Nice one Dubbs for your knowledge of all things French and pointing me this way. FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

Glad it helped.
Can't take credit though as someone else on here pointed me at APRR.FR last year when I was looking at the rip-off saneftolling.co.uk
I say rip off but if you don't mind the extra cost and exchange rate they apply to charge you in £ then it's a more convenient option (for those not prepared to muddle through the language barrier)
Which remind me, I must start up duo lingo training again!! MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)
