Dont think anybody mentioned towing speed limits.
How big (heavy) is your tintent, as a Disco and big UK twinaxle will be over 3.5T gross train weight, so you are limited to 90KPH max speed limit (or try not to get caught ) Damn difficut to go that slow towing with a D3 or D4 on nice smooth French autoroutes.

We did 110kph... Stick to standard tin tent speed limits and very unlikely they'll bother with you.

I drove at the same speed as the lighter caravans (ie 110kph) and no one batted an eyelid. I had police passing me and giving me the thumbs up sign as they admired the rig. I did this all over France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium. I slowed in areas where caravans had to slow but the rest of the time I just did as lighter caravans were meant to. No problems at all.FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

Guys - I'm no saint, and 90khp is a right pain. Year before last, coming out of Calais, me and another chap with a D4, both of us with twin axle 'vans tried it. It lasted about 20mins before we both decided enough was enough, and pushed up to 110kph (and a bit above )
The opening question was "towing in france" and request for tips/info - and now you know about towing speed limits

whats the old saying - ignorance is no excuse in the eyes of the law - or something mumbo jumbo like that.

My brother did it last year and said how dangerous it was with the hgv's thundering past.
Will be my first time abroad in May and ours is a twin axle so will see how 55mph is but I expect it won't last long on the A26 and A1D4 2010 HSE Santorini Black

The 90 kmph limit is a right pain - can't even get it into 6th. We push on just enough to keep her rolling comfortably, 110 is just about right.
