Towbar Lock - Locked Solid!

Guys,

My "removable" tow-bar has been on the car for three years solid! Embarassed

Anyway - decided to take it off today - only have the one key! Anyway the lock seems to be frozen solid _ I struggle even to get the key inot the lock - after copious amounts of WD40 and penetrating oil etc - the key levers don't seem to be moving - in fairness it has had three tough winters on the car.

I'd heard I can buy a new lock and two keys? The new keys on my 09 model are different to the 05 type - seem much more substantial.

I'd heard it's easy to get the lock out "if you know the trick" - is that the case - or do I need to go and borrow a dirty big drill!!

Any other suggestions for getting it off?

Did you try a big hammer?

Hit it from below while trying to pull and turn the green handle. This might get the tension off the locking pin and you might be able to turn it.

Cheers _ I iwll certainly try that - but the problem is physically getting the key into the lock and then turning that - before I even try to get the bar out - I'm sure that will be the next problem!

Leave the penetrating oil to do it's work for as long as you can 24/48 hours. If that doesn't do it. go and buy a new lock set from the dealers and ask them how to do it. I am against posting "how to take a towbar off" threads as I had mine stolen without the use of a key Embarassed coincidence -probably but no sense in giving more publicity to the work-round . . .

Good luck Thumbs Up

If I can find the thief who stole mine last week, I guess he could get it off for you without a key
