Towbar and cycle carriers |
|
any one having problems carrying cycles whilst towing with a quick release towbar
we found a cycle carrier that allows you to tow and carry cycles with a quick release towbar,
fitting is included in with the cost of the carrier as has to be fit to the neck of the towbar by one of their trained fitters,
we have used this carrier many times with and without towing and have not had any problems, if you want any further help have a look at their website, search for Maxxraxx cycle carriers

There are quite a few threads about these.
This is one of them, the 20% discount is still available too.

Great product but unfortunaley cannot be used when towing a caravn fitted with an Alko stabiliser hitch. Hopefully Mr Max Rack will be working on a solution soon

Almost true.....I have one of the modified units that works just fine with all the Al-Ko fitted caravans I have towed. I know he has had some fabrication issues wiht the shape of the unit .......but they can work if you shave the top corner off the assembly! D3 05 SE (old one)
RRS 08 SE (new one)

Thanks for that MX - but I'll stick with carrying the bikes on the roof until something guaranteed to work comes from Max. Too much at stake to start modifying designed components - in my opinion anyway. Thankfully I'm over 6 feet tall and, with the caravn step it's okay to get the four bikes on the roof.
The two kayaks may be a different story but I'm sure we'll manage to get them up there somehow

Hi All,
Reference the use of the Maxxraxx with Alko towbar. The issue is the towing hitch hits the quick release mechanism. I live in Shropshire and was told the nearest fitter was in Bolton or Leeds, I finally managed (after signing a disclaimer) to purchase a complete kit.
I bought longer bolts of the same grade and spaced the quick release mechanism a further 60mm ish from the swan neck.
It works a dream. I did ask Maxxraxx if they wanted to know what I had done, but they were not interested.
I have a caravan and 5 bikes and this was the only way to carry everything.
If any one needs any more info let me know
