Top tip - don't link directly to searches that have your postcode, unless you want us all to know where you live.

Right who lives in 'Heads of the valleys' area with a fault code reader Whistle

Not too bothered about postcode (unless Chalky comes round to lecture me on the inappropriate use of goretex) Thumbs Up

I'll be there next week,

Just remember, there is NO inappropriate use Thumbs Up

Just don't wear it,
And you could buy my XS for a mere snippet of the price you are paying on that plus it's had everything imaginable done in the last 6 months !

Well it drove nice and he will give me a grand for my old car which is generous.
It does need a service which is going to be a big one
Had odd rear tyres which does put me off!

Swmbo loved it so that's a big plus

Going to have another look at it tomorrow so very keen

What do the collective know or recommend about having an AA or RAC inspection?

i think both could be worthwhile - or take it to a LR main dealer & get them to do the 140 point LR pre-sale check......

does it feel 'right'... just budget for the cambelts & a big service. Also check out warranty direct for cost of warranty - some dealers 'if it breaks i'll fix it' non insurance backed ones are pants for this type of vehicle.

plus dont forget to check LR own used veh website, there a fair few with less miles for about the same ££, plus you get at leat 12 months LR warranty & MOT failure insurance......

Yeah warranty from that garage is fairly useless and looking at taking my own with warranty direct but the 100k mileage is looking prohibitive

Appreciate those 2 links but neither of them are a direct comparison really Neutral

I know what you mean 'but' the advantage of buying a new vehicle fascilitates this, the disadvantage of buying used means you very rarely get something that your all together happy with,

What I mean is don't buy the wrong car because it's got the colour interior that you want ?

A guy I work with offered me 7K for my D3 ?

He could buy one for 7 back home, it was advertised at 7:750 so he presumed he had a bargain,

Last week he took it in to a garage as he refused to listen to me when I told him the front wish bones were shot !
As a result he has a D3 that's got no rubber bushes in the wishbones, the rears would also fail an MOT as would the brake lines as they are seeping, both diffs are wet through, when you turn the key off it runs on for about 5 seconds ?
There no record of the 105K service ? The stereo doesent work neither does the Nav and the passenger footwell is wet through !

But he liked it because it was grey with a cream interior ?

Be careful !!!!!!!

true which is why i'm umming and arring so much!

This car is local (i haven't got time to go traveling up and down the country looking.

The mileage is a bit higher than i was looking for but this means the price is good, alot of negative comments on here saying that's dear you can buy x for same etc but i've been scouring the second hand market for 6 months and this is private good money (plus a very good px)

The deal breaker is going to be warranty direct and if i can negotiate a no betterment warranty for fair money as the dealers 'if it breaks i'll fix it' warranty is pants (thanks gje Thumbs Up )

Still undecided on a RAC inspection, as a member i get discount but it's still £305 for 4x4s and not sure if it's 'dead' money?

If you're undecided I would wait, especially with summer almost upon us !
4X4's always go down in price at this time of year ! Wait out for the one you want and ye shall be rewarded ! You might even precure enough fundage to warrant more Gary Gore-Tex
Thumbs Up

I would personally buy From H Land Rover ! Main dealers hate being threatened in the show room !
Warn them of your frustrations before a deal is struck that way when you return crimson faced they know their getting in comming !

You should look to get around 2K off the screen price of a D3 at a dealers, and don't bother with a warranty, I've found them to be more problematic than the effing vehicle problems themselves !

Get yourself on first name terms with a local Indy and throw the warranty cash direct at the problems themselves !
Plus buying from a dealer you can negotiate properly because they have plenty of margin in them !

And you can get the corroded brake pipes replaced under warranty, and they do the whatsit point check so if its tyes are low they get done, pads disks etc etc !
Go there with the right attitude you will get £2:5 k off one !
Or take me and I'll do it for you

No crisp packet rustling of Gary permitted !

Looking at the car it is an 09MY and in a LR dealer they are asking £22+ for similar, maybe 10k less miles.

If you want warranty try Car Care Plan, if you are a CSMA member you get a very good deal on the warranty.

If you like the look of the car and it looks like is has not been in bits everywhere, then it is meant for you.

When ever you make a deal, you both have to be content with the transaction, if you rob the dealer you will be a customer who has annoyed him, and he will not be helpful, using everything to avoid sorting those small niggles.

The last question I always ask on any deal, are you happy, are you making money. if he is not making money he will go bust, and you will have no redress whatsoever, which is of no benefit to you.

Well I got £5K off list price when I bought mine in 2009, the previous owner had traded it in for newly launched D4.

Gaz it was Matford land rover in Exeter !
I can heartily recommend them ! They are part of the Yeovil group,

And rather the dealer gets Dry Bummed than me ensuring that they are happy Shocked

Once I've walked away from a purchase I like to feel like I've squeezed every last drop of energy out of the lying cheating robbing bar stewards that we ALL like to refer to as Stealers !
Let alone money money off !

And if it goes wrong it goes back irrespective of whether I feel like I might have had too much money off

Maybe it's just me but my money is hard earned and the more of it I keep for myself the happier I am
