Differences in Oz spec Disco and Disco owners manual

I have finally had some time at home to spend looking at the drivers manual
So far I have noticed the following missing features:
No alarm Evil or Very Mad
No vanity lights Smile
No front Passenger drink holder Crying or Very sad (near Glove box)
No middle row 12 V plug. Crying or Very sad

Is there anything else people can add to the list.

No alarm? I thought every spec d3 had an alarm and immobiliser.

The other things you mention are not standard on all specs either, though some can easily be added, e.g. the passenger drink holder only costs a few quid to buy.

Don't forget that the manual may detail specifications not attributable to your car. But an alarm should be there for sure Wink

I spoke to the service guy at my nearest Landrover Dealership and he said it was not fitted, plus the little alarm indicator only flashes 2 times when the car is locked instead of 3 times.

My SE V6 has an alarm.

Try this:

Close the car up.. leave one door open and hit the lock button.

The horn should sound to tell you that the door is not closed. it it does.. you have an alarm!

Cheers

Mark T.

P.S. The drink holder.. I nearly destroyed the dash trying to open mine... it's not there.

My first SE had Vanity lights, but my second does not.

They both had an alarm.

Try programming the 'Land Rover' button on your key fob to the 'Panic Alarm' mode (Switch off the car, press the LR Button and the Hazard Flashers on the Centre binnacle).

The Second row power is only available with the Hi ICE or Premuim ICE. It also includes a 3.5mm AUX Input.

My First car also had the cupholder below the passenger side vent.

Razzle,

It also depends on the model you buy in Oz.

As Glymmer_Man stated Hi-Ice gets a centre 12V outlet.

Mines got the passenger side cup holder (not that anyone has used it yet) and mine has the lights in the vanity mirrors but that is in a bright pack standard of SE and HSE.

I believe alarm (car horn) is standard across the range which is stated on the LRA website.

Things we don't get are Tyre Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), Adaptive Cruise Control (now on RRS), front seat heaters and power fold mirrors (early models).

I opened my door and pressed the lock button and the horn sounded.
Not sure this proves anything as my BA Fairmont will do the same thing and it does'nt have a car alarm.

We need to be clear, when I talk about an alarm, I mean a car alarm which will activate when some one attempts to break in, as opposed to a panic alarm activated by the keyring.

The mechanic was very clear when he said the alarm is not fitted.

I guess one way to settle it is to try and set it off, any ideas?

BTW I have a 07 SE TDV6

It has the Bright pack and it does not have the vanity lights, not that they would be used anyway.

Try this razzle. Don't close the driver's door properly and press the Lock button on the key. The horn will sound alerting you to the fact that a door was not properly closed. Don't touch the door.

Now leave the car (within sight) for a few minutes, and then try to open the door by hand. Your alarm should sound. It is the horn BTW.

Mine is an Aussie base spec 'S' but I discovered this feature although I had not expected it.

Can't comment on the other points as mine is an 'S' spec and doesn't get a look in at those lovely options.

This is a cut and paste from LRA's website which states the following about "Security"

"Alarm and immobiliser
Discovery 3 is fitted with a comprehensive array of anti-theft measures and incorporates an engine management system immobiliser. A perimetric detection system triggers the alarm if an attempt is made to open the boot, bonnet or any of the doors. Additionally, deadlocks inhibit the operation of interior door handles once the vehicle has been locked. "

Perimetric is what you get and LR use the word Alarm but only activates if a door etc is opened of course it doesn't stop the smashed window and someone getting in without opening a door. We don't get any ultrasonics like the o'sea models to protect the interior. So the alarm is basic but is still an alarm in my mind.

I left drivers door partially open and pressed the lock key on keyring and horn sounded, I also noticed internal door locks did'nt lock. I returned to vehicle about 15 minutes later and attempted to open several doors and nothing happened.

I then shut all doors and then open the top back door and then locked the car, this time the horn sounded and the internal door locks locked. I left it for 15 minutes and came back an attempted to open a few doors and again nothing happened.

Not sure if I have missed something here, but I could'nt trigger alarm.

razzle, mine is an August 05 build date, I wonder if that has any bearing?

I do know that when Ford took over they said there was not supposed to be the small production line changes that were prevalent in previous builds (presumabably to keep costs contained). But from what I have read on this forum (and others) that does not appear to be strictly true.

Anyway, I'll attempt to repeat what happened to me with the 'alarm' and report back...

I just had a quick look in the manual. The anti theft indicator on the dash should flash twice when the alarm is armed without internal space protection and this is what my does.????

I have just contacted my Land Rover dealer again and they have again confirmed that the vehicle does not come with an alarm. Big Cry
