if you are towing a trailer etc, you will need a triangle for the trailer as well as the car.
if you are camping and have an electric hookup then you will also need a Euro pin to UK EHU converter as some campsites only have the normal euro sockets
for the car you will need
original insurance certificate
registration document or proof of hire/useage
MOT certificate if it needs it
first aid kit
spare light bulbs for car and caravan Duncan

Plus remember French diesel is lot cheaper than here (~€1.30 unless you just bend over at the peage service stations), unless you have a fuel card.

European Health insurance card.
Though spare bulbs are not a legal requirement but an advisory, the Gendarmerie can insist you change a bulb if the light is out.

I would also take a spare towing mirrors, because if you get one smashed you are knackered, especially if its the left hand side that breaks ! Duncan

Extension lead and French hook up, beware they sometimes reverse the polarity so it can blow your fuses box, you can get a polarity checker, some people use these http://www.waudbys.co.uk/products/details/15238.html
