My Disco days are over !!

Well after 8+ years of happy ownership it looks like my Disco days are over !! Big Cry
Had a long meeting with my accountant yesterday and I've decided to take the plunge and semi-retire ......
...... way before my years I hasten to add...... thought about it this time last year but backed out.
So unfortunately [and the biggest loss is] I need to move out my D4.
Totally gutted about that, I'd rather lose a kidney ... and I'm serious.
Not rich enough and just can't substantiate keeping the D4 with it's associated costs.
So would appreciate help with your views on my questions. Neutral

1] What is the best variant to sell my D4 in?
a) take it back to standard Landmark trim?
b) sell it 'as is' with it's 'off-road' bias kit - sliders, sump plate, guards, bars, LTZ's etc?
Plan would be to offer it on here with both options, but need one or the other for Autotrader Confused
[If plan b, the bits will be offerred to the vultures - but no first dibs on here for now!]

2] Any idea of market value?
- reg Mar 11, 47k, pristine condition, fully serviced to 48k, tax to Oct.
Not gone thoroughly into that yet but thoughts around the £32k
(would expect an added £750 to £1k with the off-road bits on it) Question

3] What's best way to transfer my personal plate off the vehicle?
I don't have a replacement vehicle yet to transfer directly to [at a cost of £80]
Form V317 says I can put it on a years retention for £108.
But no doubt there'll be another charge to add to my 'euroshitbox' replacement after the D4 sale Sad
Would that cost me an extra £80?

Finally, for the comediens who like to express their 'humour' on the Landmark, feel free to post your 'unique' one-liners here. Wink
.... think that would be more appropriate than sticking them on my FS thread when it pops up Rolling Eyes
no offence taken btw .... honestly! Thumbs Up

Bitter-sweet day...semi-retirement and loss of the Disco...I think thats a decision many of us will have to take
My personal view is take it back to "standard" Landmark trim,if you can be bothered, then feed the circling vultures on here.
I think that way the car would be less "personalised" and appeal to a broader audience.
I understand you would have to pay out another £80,on top of the £108 to put a retained plate on another car....car-to car is £80 all in afaik....
Sorry/and happy for you Thumbs Up

Ron, take it back to standard. I speak from experience of selling my D3 recently, and a few viewers were put off by the 'off road toy' look. However, some liked the look too.

IIRC the cost of retention of a reg number includes the allocation of the number to a vehicle in the future.

Whats with the semi retirement? Something I would love to do, but haven't got the balls to get out of the race at the moment. My kids are growing up and flying the nest, the wife and I keep watching 'Escape to the country'

Good luck with everything. Surely a cheaper LR product would suit you better than a Euro Censored box?

The £108 includes the £80 transfer fee.

Sad day but understand why it has to go, these are not cheap to run and have more than once thought about selling mine as it is a bit of a cash cow. Sad But a good load of man maths means it's still here. Smile

Re retention, easiest way to do it and, as Gareth sez, that fee includes the cost of putting it on your next car. Thumbs Up

Many thanks for input chaps.

D4 going back to bog standard Thumbs Up
Number Plate retention and transfer for £108 Thumbs Up
Interested in anyones valuation on the D4 Question

Considered FL2 even D3 paid for outright.
But tax & MPG [& repairs] would still hurt versus the £30-£140 tax and 47-55mpg on the stuff I'm looking at.

Will eventually pack it all in, get a bicycle, pedal my way back up to the North of Scotland, open a coffee shop and live happily ever after......

I agree with DSL & DG, Keep the car and ditch the accountant. He obviously not landrover driver so how can he possibly be qualified to give you such advice. Or sell the D4 to the accountant at list, he can afford it Laughing Thumbs Up

Well done that man Thumbs Up

Sounds like a great move, I think about doing the same now and again, then remember the 6 year old I have at home Big Cry A few years yet, but I enjoy my work / life situation so not so bad at all.

The D4? It's only a car really and an expensive one to run at that. Not really that relevant in the bigger picture. It would be the first thing to go if my circumstances change.

Good luck!

Ron, you can't sell the D3 (facelifted version), the traffic jams you'd cause on the A66 with your eurobox pulling the tin tent would be intolerable. Keep it & work round the costs. Whistle Thumbs Up
