Sorry to hear you'll be getting rid of the white lady but at least you can say you've had one and made her look better than the mighty landrover company could ever do
I can honestly say reading about your mods ect both to your d3 and the d4 you totally inspired me to have a go too.
Your a top bloke Ron and even though I've only met you two or three times I feel it a great honour to have actually shook the hand of one of this forums legends
All the best mate with your future plans
Dunc life is tooooo short.enjoy the moment.dont worry be happy

Retire, keep the D4 lives to short.
Most people I know retire and then discover their better off than they through.
Relax and see how it goes before taking an action you may regret in the near future.I'm to old to know everything......
D4 Gone over to the Dark Side (D5)
D3 gone ...... But now want one for knocking about! Is this a form of insanity?

I didn't say I was retiring [or even dying].
I'm not moving off the face of the earth ... well have no plans to anyway...
unless you count my comment about moving to North of Scotland
I'm SEMI-retiring - that means I'll still be working!
But just can't justify keeping the D4 to do it.
I'll still be visiting the site and making my usual contributional drivel....
... if I can bear it.

Have you noticed how old people smell of digestives?
Back to standard Landmark trim - you know it makes sense.
(How much for first dibs on your wheels?)
Hang on a minute......who or what do you call old!!

... but might end up joining the ranks that slag off the Landmark and will probably start calling the new D5 a facelifted D4.
Anyway DVLA
Filled in all the forms for transferring reg no to retention.
On the V317 it said it could take up to 8 weeks but it also said I could call at my local office.
Now that's in Stockton and about an hours drive from me.
Checked the website and got address, postcode and opening hours so I would leave nothing to chance.
However just thought I'd phone the DVLA just to check the process, as I didn't want to travel that far and forget something important [or even lose my place in the queue and have to go back to the D4 for something then queue all over again.]
Plus I wanted to know what the process of retention and eventual transfer actually entailed.
Well Swansea must have one of the longest menus and tier of sub menus in the world.
Eventually got through to a 'real person' and was very surprised he actually had a personality and was a very helpful chappie [and it's not even Friday?].
Anyway it transpires I CANNOT get this done by visiting my 'local' office anymore!!
So, at least this call saved me the time, distance and cost of travelling to their office.
That'll give me more time to go out and 'detail' the facelifted D3 [in the rain ]...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

I made that mistake also, you can do the initial part,i.e. buy a reg and put it on car. at the local office but not transfer,i sat in the glasgow office for an hour only to find out that all they do is check the forms, take payment and then send off to Swansea, you then still have to wait weeks to get paperwork through
Could have saved a week by just sending it all off to Swansea.

Don't believe that Ron, I put SWMBO's old plate on retention a few weeks ago since we got married and I bought her a new one, was removed within a week and the retention document on the doorstep within 10 days.

Yes, the up to 8 weeks is if they/PO lose it, that's the timescle before they'll start an investigation.
But sods law and knowing my luck that's what would've happened to me. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
