Running a 12 v supply in Discovery 4
On the Disco 3 it was relatively easy to pass a power cable connected from the battery (via a fuse) through a small unused grommet located near the accellerator in the firewall, and then continue the cable run down the side under the plastic side step protectors front and rear doors, etc, to the rear near the tailgate.
However, on the Disco 4 the unused grommet is still there, but in the cabin there appears to be a different (bigger) accellerator mechanism, so access to this grommet in the cabin is extremely difficult. Has anyone had this issue, and how was it overcome? Alternatively, does anyone know how to remove the side foot "kick plate" plastic (to the right of the pedal) so access the void there is made easier. Maybe then I can access the grommet area, but I am having difficulty in removing this panel
I desire to run 12V+ve to a panel of auxilary port outlets, as I did in the Disco 3, but I seem to be having firewall access issues. I could drill a hole, but would prefer to avoid this if at all possible.
Any clues gratefully received
Cheers,
Geoff.

I haven't done this mself so cant offer direct advice but I think a number of people have fitted a second aux battery to the D4. In the D4 this seems to go in the rear as the spare space up front has gone. Traxide provide a kit.
If you have a hunt around the D4,or Aus area of the forum for this you may find something useful.
D4 can take an auxilliary battery in the same place as a D3, you just need to make a little room by moving things around a bit:
I can't remember how we got the cable through to the cabin, but will check in the next day or so and get back to you if no ones responded.

Didn't think it was possible to get a battery in there Mr H.
Re 'moving things around a bit', was this just persuading things to move out of the way a little bit or was it a case of some replumbing?...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

I fitted a Dual battery and a split charge system to a D4 the other week as MrH says you have to remove some brackets and a couple of units plus a Module, I then used part of the removed bracket to make another mounting for the units to mount to out of the way.
Its a tight fit but it can be done. I also fitted the split charge relay on the fan cowl right at the front and center of the engine bay as there is no room left for anything else in the D4 batterys compartment once you have the battery in place.
I use a different system to the Traxide one as this system can handle three batterys if you need it...

The grommet I use when installing dual battery systems (both D4 and D3) is the one above and a little to the passenger side of the brake pedal. From the engine bay you can see it to the right of the brake booster.

The above must've been an invisible post, or not noteworthy for response.
Would've been good to know though. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Ron et al,
TFC did mine and the moving about was literrally that: He had to move and remount some the kit elsewhere and gave me about three "spare" brackets after he'd finished.
Lovely tidy job that has had some compliments including the LRA chap and my local dealer
If anyone's passing Wiltshire and wants a look...

Thanks for that John, but the D4 is a totally differnt issue.
Whilst a second battery can be accomodated relatively easy in a D3, the D4 has got an awfull lot more electronics and plumbing in the secondary compartment....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

As Jonnyboy states, on the D4 with the exception of the Alarm sounder it is just a case of moving around and rearranging things. We extended the alarm sounder wires and mounted it on the FBH bracket the other side of the bay. As a side effect that also makes it louder because it's not shrouded in the Battery box.
This picture is a bit clearer...

Point of note, the relay for the Winch is now fitted and located underneath the Splitcharge relay.

MrH, do you need to move the alarm sounder or can it just be disconnected like on the D3 ?Duncan
