If you disconnect it you won't get any response from the locking system i.e. itbeeps when you try to lock the vehicle and a door isn't quite shut. But the D4 alarm is sounder + horn, so louder than D3 anyway.

The grommet I use when installing dual battery systems (both D4 and D3) is the one above and a little to the passenger side of the brake pedal. From the engine bay you can see it to the right of the brake booster.

Cheers,

Gordon

Just been looking for this, is it the large grommet which is about 2 inch diameter and has what looks like the steering rod go through it?

My D4 only sounds the sounder, have you had this done via IIDtool (etc) ?

Hi Tony and that rubber grommet is only available on automatics.

On a manual D3 or D4, the hole is used for the clutch cable.

Get a torch and have a look at the bottom of the firewall, below and to the drive’s side of the master brake unit.

Near the bottom of the firewall is a smaller black plastic grommet.

You can access it from inside the cab or you can use a length of dowel to remove it from the battery compartment.

The hole is just large enough to pass 2 x 16mm2 cable through.

Hi,

here are my photos at flickr putting the second battery in:

To get the cables to the cabin it's a lot of fiddling around... Wink
