Thinking of buying

a D3 TDV6 S 7 seater.

Never even looked at owning a Landrover before, and have only driven an old Disco on an off road course and have borrowed a friends Defender for a short drive down some country lanes.

But I do like the look and the drive of the new one, so I have just sold my new Boxster, as the wife and kids need a bigger car, and I'm sure tempted.

My only worry is the talk of suspension collapsing at speed and someone mentioning the cruise control taking over. As my wife and kids will be the main users of the car, I find this worrying.

I know forums are always full of faults, believe me the Boxster ones were full of them but never safety issues.

Are these real issues?

I'm getting the wife to test drive one next week as she is worried about the size, but I am sure that she will love it.

One more question, the model I'm looking at is listed at £31,995 not including metallic. What kind of discount should I push for?

No PX no finance.

Thanks everyone in advance and hello.

Whilst I did have my fair share of suspension errors, and it did lower to access height at speed once, this was all back in January/February/March, when the car had between 2000 and 8500 miles on it.

My car is one of the very first, being a November 04 registration. The dealer has had it back a few times, and it now has 20500 miles, and has had no problems since March.

I think the current build is probably as good as any other hi-tech car.

It is however a country mile ahead of anything else in its class when it comes to practicality and driving satisfaction. It really is the Best 4x4 On and Off the road.

I have had minor suspension issues, but only that the compressor wouldn't keep the tank as pressurized as the computers wanted, so it would throw a fault and keep me from changing the suspension height. I have never had the suspension "collapse" or any other safety-comprimising issues.

Apparently this has been a common problem, they have a completely re-designed compressor which I had installed about a month ago now and have been problem-free.

Other than that, no issues to complain about that matter. One of the speakers rattles, that's about it!

I have an April 05 build US Market LR3.

As much as you can Very Happy

Try a few dealers, see what you get out of them, it's getting towards month end so they'll be more willing to do a good deal

I'm envious of the discount he managed. I thought I'd done well to get a £1,000 off to match an internet quote and a car in 2 weeks, but I take my hat off to £3.5K!

Cheers,

Just out of interest, has anybody read the September 2005 issue of Top Gear? The bit i'm particularly interested in is the feature called "How to disco at Glasto". It's a great article full of praises for the Disco. I've just scanned it in, would there be any interest if I put it on the forum for users to read?

I'd like to read it, but then you are likely to be breaking copyright by re-publishing it and therefore get Martin into trouble. You could, however, email it to people who ask and perhaps put their email addresses up like so - billnted1966 at hotmail dot com.... Wink
thanks,

interesting / fun article especially as the greenies seemed to warm to it too.

And the article on the following pages is all about Tornado chasing in a RRS as well as a long term report on the Top Gear owned DISCO3... not bad coverage for Land Rover at all !

You could put it in the gallery I guess.

It is a great magazine, but more importantly, if anyone has read Michael Harvey's (Top Gear Magazine's Editor) Front End article, he wrote the following at the start of the last paragraph:

"Lastly. Forget last month's Best Car in the World mega-test, the Discovery 3 is the best car in the world." Very Happy Razz
