Cold weather trip ...?
Just wondered, amongst all the fantastic stories and photographs of amazing trips to Morocco etc that, sadly,I will probably never get the chance to experience, how many have headed North looking for snow and ice ?
In some strange way, that appeals to me just as much"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Heading norf, to North Cape, next month but deffo shouldn't see much snow. In winter only thing that puts me off heading north is lack of daylight. Not much point in driving in fantastic scenery if you can only see it for a couple of hours a day.

Did think about aking the D3 to Iceland this year but would cost £1k to get the wheels on Icelandic soil. Mind you just the diesel to N Cape & back is £1,100.

Del.....Yeah,I did think about your planned trip when I posted...I just seem to remember EVO drove a hybrid Merc SLS somewhere (for some reason Finland rings bells ?)...and the scenery looked stunning...."bleak" can be just as stunning as "scenic" with an open mind
DaveT....that looks very interesting.....it was your recent posts about Morocco that got me thinking.....as you say..one day... 8)"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Del,your planned trip does appeal hugely ....I know you're taking the "non-LR product"...but I would be very interested in your thoughts on your chosen route when you get back, based on the weather and conditions being more "adverse" ie Discovery territory."Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Taking the D3 as opposed to the BM, it's kitted out for that sort of trip so would be crazy not to take it (according to SWMBO). At least that's the plan. The fuel bill for the BM would be ~£600 but higher camping costs as cant wild Campervan as easily. Unless I break the D3 at the PNC and assuming I get the AC fixed.

In that case I would be even more interested in your thoughts when you get back ....I thought you were taking the Beemer...."Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Deffo the Campervan ability of the D3 is winning at the mo, I want to just find a stunning view from a layby & stay there rather than find a camp site. Basically doing as the thousands of camprevans do. I'll have a tent with me but not aiming to use it much, D3 configured to have fridge & gear on one side and single mattress on the other side. Also means I can do a few roads in Norway that are non Tarmac, as shown by streetview.
However if the D3 throws up any problems on the PNC then I have the 5 ready to go with a very similar schedule. If the AC isn't fixed it's deffo not going. Opening windows up there for ventilation is not an option with the bugs.

Some of the Defender2 chaps did a Nord Kap expedition in the middle of winter. Camping in minus 40 Northern lights etc.

That looks very interesting...reading through the thread it looks like they "won" the trip......the only upcoming bookable one that I can find is being run by LR Germany "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
