charge fault-Help Please.... |
|
Hello Guys just wondering if someone can give me some insight on what the issue with my disco 4 is. I have a MKII Disco 4 3.0TDI and am getting a charge fault on my dash. It turns on about 10 seconds after I turn the car on and my low beam xenons are not working (figuring due to this charge fault). I am getting about 13.8V on the battery when I check with a Voltmeter and am not sure if this is enough. A mate seems to think its an alternator issue but the car only has 52,000km on it. Can anyone give me an idea to what it is can be or if it is likely to be a faulty alternator?

start up will prob be 13, but it should then rise to 14.5-15 if the battery needs it.
Try putting the ign on and the lights and blowers/radio etc for 10 minutes.
Then start her up, that should have drained enough out of the battery to force the alternator to push out more power.
But usually the alternator is the only reaon for the battery light to come on. Bodsys Brake Bible

Guess what guys.. replaced the alternator and still getting charge fault. The low beam xenons turn on for a second and switch straight back off. I had airbags replaced and Im thinking maybe the guy has screwed something up in the dash panel....Would appreciate some ideas. Thanks

What happens if you start the engine with the lights off?
Edit: I'm suspecting a short circuit somewhere, perhaps with the headlight/parker wiring.
Another edit: I wonder if the load sense device on the battery negative terminal is working properly. Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs

The airbags means the whole dash out. Who did the work? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I changed the load sense device when I changed the alternator suspecting it may be faulty. The airbags were changed by the panel shop and I was told that there were a few cables that were mended. If I start the engine with the Lights off I still get the fault about 12 seconds after the car starts. Also with the car off I still get the lights turn on and straight off also. I was suspecting the computer turns off the lights due to the charge fault but obviously with the car off thats not the case and the problem still occurs. Would a short in the headlight harness cause a charge fault? Regards
