Can I use an inverter to charge my van battery?

Having seen an inverter for sale on the forum, I was wondering if I could use an inverter to put some charge in my vans battery if it went flat.
The scenario is that I am on a site without hook up, and my battery went flat. If I had an inverter, could I plug it into say the boot power socket, and with the engine running, connect the hook up cable via a mains adapter cable, (which I have) to the van and get some charge into the battery?
Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.

sounds like a hugely over complicated (and lengthy) way of doing it, you could just leave a pair of jump leads from yours to van battery for a few minutes instead maybe...?
 and theeeeennn......???

It's possible but not practical or economic. Smile
Best way is a small generator, or a solar panel of sufficient size or twin charging set up on the car or swap the battery for the car battery(if it will fit) and go for a long drive.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

if your d3 is that close to the van, then I would definately say use the D3 and some quality jump leads.

The d3 alternator puts out up to 150amp, so far more than a normal charger would.
