Update on my 2007 Discovery 3. Its been in Independent Land Rover specialist for another 7 days now with the intermittant total power loss. They called yesterday to say in their opinion it has been isolated to the fuel pressure pump, as their diagnostics tell them that the pressures from the pump are all over the place.
Cost now escalated to over £1000, and out of warranty. I will post how I get on once pump changed.

I had a 2005 td6 ffrr and that did exactly the same, was a pig to find and no warning lights, turned out to be a pump in the fuel tank (saddle type tank) that wasn't pumping from one side to the other and causing fuel starvation. Not sure if tank is same on D3 though?! Also to check this on the td6 their was a clear pipe in the engine bay which in theory should of had fuel in it but didn't after problem! If you watched it while someone turned key to poisition 2 if pump worked fuel started to run through it. Hope this helps and makes sense!
D3 only has 1 tank, though it does have a fuel pump in it to get the fuel into the engine bay - there is a Schrader valve in their to test for pressure.
The FFRR has tanks either side of the car I believe and a pump to get the fuel between the two.Mark.

Lift off the top engine cover, right at the back, centrally you'll see a pipe with a valve just like the ones on your tyres, that is the valve you're looking forYou guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

hi , just a little update on refitting the brake switch , I did this a couple of days ago and things seem to be fine for now , I haven't checked for any error codes yet or for ( lost communication ) so will have to do this , the ecu does know you've changed the switch and recalibrates this , I think I had to press the brake and clutch together next time you turn the ignition on , I did read disco-mikey reply to a abd/wheel speed sensor , when I checked the error codes there was only one referring to the vdm ecu which was C1A96-64 brake lamp switch circuit , there was a time a couple of months ago when going round a roundabout slowly the abs light came on and the front passenger wheel braked , this happened a few times , I think there are that many things that can trigger the error codes , as stickerguy noted when this happens it triggers many , ive seen up to 8 in one instance , looking forward to hearing if the fuel pressure pump is the culprit .

Update to my supposed fuel pump problem.....my car has now been in the garage for three weeks as apparently there are no D3 High pressure fue;pumps avaialble anywhere in the World! I am losing patience with this garage and want to take it somewhere else, the trouble is, where? I have called Stratstone in Newport but there attitude on the phone stinks, so I am reluctant to give the car to them. I live in Cwmbran, South Wales, any suggestions? Thanks, Steve

Steve,
You have my sympathy as it's very frustrating when you cannot get something sorted, get it checked and diagnosed at a good dealer there must be a few your part of the country, I know it's going to cost more but is it not worth it to get it sorted, all the best.

Update on Disco3 faults and from 70mph to limp mode
Just an update on my Disco3
Quick recap on symptoms... Driving along constant speed, then suddenly all pings and whistles with multiple fault codes, suspension lowers and into limp mode, rolling to a stop on the hard shoulder. After a few restarts, faults clear and off we go with no recurrence for up to a week then same again. Frequency of this happening increasing until eventually would not reset.
Independent LR diagnosed Main Fuel Injection pump throwing out high pressure readings.
Replacement pump from LR new cost £2500.00. Waited three weeks with car of road for a LR reconditioned pump: £800.00 plus fit, total cost £1350.00
I have had the car back three weeks with no recurrence of fault. I hope posting this on here does not jinx me!
