Looking for some advice
I'm trying to find replacement tyres for my 17'' rims. The Goodyears that I have had on have worn down within 21000 miles and I'm after something different that is a reasonable price.
I've seen 245 70 17's mentioned on this forum and was hoping that someone could give me some feedback as to how they behave on tarmac. I realise that they are a 50/50 tyre.
I've found a website selling them for £90.64 including package and post. Sounds a good price. If they can be sourced for less than the above price I'd also be interested (subject to feedback on how they perform)
Any advice appreciated.

The Cooper ST's and STT's are both fine on tarmac but noisier (especially the STT's) than road biased tyres
A lot of the 17" rims come out of the LR factory shod with 235/70 Continentals, I've never heard anyone complain about the wear with these so they may be worth considering of you're not going off road (though you really should )

They will get some off road action (predominatly quite harsh stoney quarry enviroments) but I've got to admit the vast majority will be clocking up the mileage on the ashfelt. (Work really is bloody inconvienient)
The sensible choice would be tyres with a bias towards road driving, but if I'd used my common sense I'd have a Mondeo/Vectra and would have saved a boat load of cash. For the odd occasion I do get to play i want something that will deal with off road terrain, but to be honest I want a comprimise that also looks good.
I've looked on ebay and have previously been tempted to go for a set of 18/19'' alloys and tyres. I've always stopped short due to people getting auction fever and getting carried away.
I'm thinking the Coopers might be a reasonble comprimise but wanted to see if anyone had any real complains with regards to the performance on tarmac before making a decision.
I used to run the STT's, they are noisy on tarmac (but the volume control helps with that) but excellent off-road and despite the aggressive tread surprisingly grippy even in the wet. The ST's may be better for you're needs but aren't as tough which may be a consideration for the quarriesThe End

I've been running around on Cooper Stt's for the past month, and I will be refitting my road wheels tomorrow.
The STT's are fantastic off road, and look the mutts nuts on the car, but they are noisy, very noisy! and the handling is somewhat vague.
I like the STTs too. They're very good at throwing mud at photographers.

Jack, get 2 sets of 17"s, one with STTs & the other keep the original road tyres! I'm finding they (Continental 4x4) wear much better than the Pirellis and are great green laning tyres. Then use the STTs for the mud (as I do with MTRs). The Contis were much better at climbing the wet rocks than mud tyres on the Lakes trip.

DSL, good advice if I was loaded and could afford a spare set of alloys.
Unfortunately my unhealthy interest in Moto X, prohibits excessive expenditure on the D3. (bike comes first)
