Geoff, I know, it was me who misunderstood. You've been helpful to me on the forum before.
I do also think they are being a bit rash just saying to replace the compressor... oh well, as said, I'll have to see what the damage is in the morning.
Their rates quoted haven't been too bad so far. £75 to change the anti-roll bar link-pin cover when H*lfords wanted £165. Their Cam bet change £550, not too bad.
If you were down the road from me Geoff i wouldn't hesitate. Just that I am run ragged with my own small business and cant take a second out.

Secondly,although you were warned,I think you have done a few people a service here.By posting your experience,and admitting your "error" you may just have saved a few folk from making the same mistake... Yeah I like to think that's right... when someone else searches 'Halfords' they will see the post.
In mild fairness, they are what they are, but just not for complex cars. Well, things that weigh 3 tons, have 2 chassis, can drive up mountains, wade in rivers and are wrapped in so much over-complex gadgetry, they are just not 'cars'! and not for the likes of  -scratchers at Halfords! So. Hopefully the end of the saga.
Geoff has been a diamond. Sorted me out. All MOTd. New Grabber GTs (nicer drive than the Scorpions by the way) and he's just left, saving me needing a new compressor. Can now afford to get cam belt and other stuff done now.
Halfords. Never again. Steer well clear. The they didn't tuck the stuff back properly when changing the pads so had brake pad sensor problems and damaged ABS sensor.
All sorted.

The things I've learnt is there are dealers, and independents who try to act like dealers. They dont investigate or fix anything. Instead they want to replace half your car and that's OK when it's company owned or leased.
In the normal world where people dont have 3 grand sitting in the back of their pocket you need to find people who you can trust to at least look for the real problem that is often not as bad as a main dealer would make-out.
This forum I think is essential if you own a Disco. Any LR in fact!
I'm gathering there's Geoff and a whole bunch of sound blokes on here who you should always speak to first.
I didn't at first (only because I didn't realise Geoff travelled) and got in a mess. Nov 04 D3 TDV6 HSE Java Black
