engine knocking sound for 3-4 seconds on cold start up

Am I getting paranoid Shocked this is my 3rd D3 - the other 2 made no noise at all on start up from being left overnight & cold. This latest one makes a loud noise for about 3-4 seconds on start up, like an unlubricated camshaft metal on metal type of noise !!!! What do you guys think ?

Randalls,

My TDV6 does make a chain like metal rattle at start up after sitting overnight. It has this sound for about 1-2 seconds before it stops.

Mine too, I was told it is the cam drive which is tensioned by oil pressure. It takes a few seconds to generate pressure. Check the oil level.

thanks for the replies guys, checked the oil level - is at the max marker. I will add this to my 'snagging list'
which I will put here for my reference.

1. rattling on cold start up
2. poping sound when recieving incoming phone call
3. cant get a TMC channel lock - when I can get perfect classic FM reception
4. somebody stole the ash trays Big Cry

Do you get two chimes or one when starting?
First is the "I'm ready", second chime(if you get it) could be oil "warning" on engine start - typically about 2-3 seconds after engine starts, seems to coincide with oil light extinguishing.
Only seems to occurs when car left overnight in cold weather.
There is another thread on that apsect and a few of us found that when you park uphill you get two chimes, when downhill, only the one Very Happy I have solved problem by parking down hills in the winter 8) Might be worth a try!
