It sounds like it has changed Lee. The building was a new log cabin type affair if I recall correctly, and the instructor an ex-police class 1 guy. Really good. Club N.E.R.D's

We went last year and enjoyed it a lot. The log cabin was cosy (want such a "man-cave" at our place..!), and the instructors and their dog very friendly.
However, I recall that the instructor drove a lot of the "demo" route while we drove up a grassy hill a few times. This was a 1/2 day session, so not sure if its different if you get a full day.
As its free, it was good value, but a days green landing in my Defender would teach you a lot more...
Cheers
Simon
Ps the location and attached hotel is fantastic

A lot depends on the instructor and also if you are on a voucher based introduction session or actual course, some of the free sessions are really just demo's with a bit of on road driving added. As others say if you have never been off road ever then fine, otherwise it will be too tame.
The full day Level 1 is better in terms of what you learn but there are other cheaper (and better) 4x4 centres around, I can't name the name as it would be advertising

Been to LRE Skipton a few times.
[In fact was 'spotted' there for my first time by the man above ^ ]
Yep, found it a great introduction to the vehicles capabilities and well worth it if you're venturing into off-road for the first time.
Now armed with the years of knowledge and experience, I wouldn't do it now though. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Did the freebie half day with the Mrs a couple of years ago and wanted to drive round the main track steps, camel humps water etc but only allowed the hills and rollers. 70% of the drive was on tarmac.
As said IMHO based on my experience Club N.E.R.D.s

@ Archei
I wouldn't blow it out completely because of one bad instructor and pipes can be unblocked very quickly these days. Have you tried speaking to Liam @ LandRover on here? If you speak to him about your concerns you may well be surprised. LR might give you another voucher F.O.C - speak to the centre too, explain that you weren't happy with the instructor and request that they supply someone else. I take you did do all this afterwards? The instructor shouldn't have to shout if he's on the ball although if there is imminent danger in may be necessary on occasion.
Generally, I have found the LRE site to be very good indeed and the staff are usually ( but not always) very professional. Personally, I'd ask LR for a another voucher and see where things went from there.
