Still not found the breather. Changed the oil today but ran out of time for a thorough search at either end. There was no pressure inside the box and the oil looked better than expected.
Going in to have a look with an endoscope tomorrow.

There appears to be 2 points where the tube attaches/clips to the body (apart from the ends). Does anyone know where these are?

Just done mine,
Now bearing in mind i havent driven the vehicle in two days, the audiable release of pressure when i cut the pipe was significant!
Im amazed my seals havent popped!
Does the high pressure cause any other problems with the front diff other than seals?

i've heard that if the axle breather pipe is blocked u can sometimes get a very slight vibration in the steering wheel
don't know how true that is ???
good u caught it in time in not blowing the seals

I'd be interested to know how difficult it is to replace the entire pipe. Some mechanic or previous owner cable-tied my breather to the radiator and it's melted.
How does the pipe detach from the diff? Pull or Unscrew?
Is it possible to route another pipe through without removing major engine components?

Enless you wade through water up to the grill I wouldn't even consider replacing the whole pipe!
Not a nice job!
I think there is a joint which can be accessed in the passenger wheel arch or if it's half way up the rad just cut the end of neatly and fit the breather end

Thanks Pete, good to know.
Do you know what inner and outer diameter the pipe is?
Maybe I could buy the replacement pipe and a coupler, cutting off way after the melting finished and connecting a new pipe there - not sure what size coupler I'll need though.

Look at the suspension strut.
Then look to the left side of that, and into the engine bay
You should see a large silver pipe.
The breather joiner is near that
