Front Diff covered by LR Warranty? |
|
Hi, As per title, from peoples experience on here would a failing Diff be covered by LR approved warranty?
Bought the car last summer from a dealer, an 07 plate so it was the full "used" approved warranty. There is a whine coming from down there somewhere and it ain't getting any quieter...
I think from the symptoms I've ruled everything else out, but IF it was the diff anyone had that replaced under LR warranty before? I'm a bit concerned they'll just say its wear and tear!
Cheers!

Mine was covered by Momentum Warranties....just make sure you get the important "sudden and catastrophic failure" diagnosis, otherwise they will try and wriggle out under "wear and tear" "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Just a thought...why don't you run it till it fails completely.....would you not then stand a better chance of being covered ?...don't know how the LR Warranty is worded though "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Is it the diff? Any more details in case it's a bearing?

Cheers guys
It's on about 54K miles...
I was thinking about just leaving it until it gets much worse (not being 100% sure thats the problem) or failed alltogther, but the warranty will run out July and was not sure about leaving it too late. Although I'll probably get another warranty after that, it would be good to get it done on the LR one I think. Also a bit worried that if it did go and caused lots of secondary damage (driveshafts popping out etc etc) they wouldn't pay for that?
(And from a practical point of view my wife is pregnant, due in a few months, wouldn't want it failing while i'm booting it to the hospital!! I guess there's plenty room to pop a kid out in the back of a disco but don't want to try it!! )
Also I should really get it into them as it could just be needing fluid or something....
You're right DSL it might be something else as I'm certainly no expert, but here's my logic...
- Whine is definately road speed related, not engine speed. (seems to be most noticable as approach 50mph)
- Whine doesn't change when shifting weight from side to side, so don't think its wheel bearings (although I guess there could be other bearings in the drivetrain that could go!)
- Whine doesn't change when shifting gear (its an Auto) or when popped into Neutral so think its something "downstream" of gearbox gubbings
- Doesn't sound to me like tyre noise (GG AT2s) as road type/condition didn't seem to affect it, Actually Confirmed this this morning I think, as when driving along a virgin snow covered road with virtually zero road noise the whine was still present (and more noticable!)

I hardly think 54K miles is fair wear and tear on a diff or wheel bearing really! Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Thanks for the offer sean 471, if you remember then it would certainly be good to hear what they say, but don't go out of your way. I'll be taking it into the dealer anyway I think just wanted to see what other peoples experiences were.
I totally agree Dave T, which is why although I'm not known for my assertiveness, I'll be expecting them to fix it at their cost, just needed a bit of backup to give me confidence! haha!

Just renewed my LA warrenty and asked about the diff.
Answer if its wear and tear then not covered, if its failure then it is.
So get the landrover dictionary out

Was it late Summer, and how long has it whined? If you bought within 6 months, the warranty is just a distraction as you have consumer rights. Even if it's within 12 months you still have plenty of rights. Warranties provided with the sale of a car are often worthless within year 1, and just determine how much of an argument you're likely to have when claiming. 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

Thanks Sean! much appreciated
hmm.. well as Dave T says i'll strongly be argueing that if it is the diff then thats not fair wear and tear. I mean they say themselves even the fluid in there doesn't need to be changed for 10 years or something!
Thats also a good point John C tend to get focused on what the warranty says, which I guess can give them an easy out...
Its booked in for Monday anyway so we'll see what happens!
The other thing is that since I bought the car the dealer has changed ownership, would that affect my rights? Apparently the new owner is not known for good aftersales service...
