New to this forum, Fault with the dash lights

Hello there, Im new to this forum, I work for a garage which gets alot of Discovery 3's in and I have come accross a problem with one of them. The dash backlights are not working, the problem has been getting worse for a month or so, they were intermittently working now they dont work at all, I have checked the back of the clocks which all seems ok and connected. I have replaced the headlamp switch and still no joy Sad has anyone else had this fault?

Cheers

Sometimes a quick jiggle of the brightness control is known to kick them back into life.

I have experienced a similar problem, usually when starting in cold weather. The lights have always come on after a while. I discussed this with the dealer when it first happened and their theory was that if the battery voltage is low the the system prioritizes how the power is used and the dash lights get low priority. I have found that it helps to switch the sidelights on before starting the engine.

This probably doesn't help as you will have checked this but you never know:
When I picked my car up, dash lights were not working in auto setting, only in manual setting.
Turns out there are two different fuses for these settings, one was blown.

Well, as I said, you never know.

Thanks for the info, I have replaced the light switch and dimmer as it all comes as one, it didnt work, i have checked the fuses and they are both ok. It started as an intermittent problem but is now a perminant one Confused I dont think it would be battery voltage as they dont come on when the vehicle has been running. Is there a control unit for the dash lights or anything? Its really bugging me as i dont want to have to take it to a land rover dealer but it looks like i may have to.

Cheers

So when you had the clocks out did you do any continuity tests etc? Reckon this may be your next chore to see where the power stops. I haven't a clue what the back of the d3 instrument clusters are like though. Normal printed circuit type?

I had the clocks out and took them apart its a circuit board with LEDs soldered into it. I attempted a continuity check but it seems that the wires from the switch go somewhere before they go to the clocks and all the wires are different colours to the ones on the switch Confused with no pin data or wiring diagrams i was fighting a loosing battle. As said one of the other chaps at work got the dash lights to work by fiddling with the light switch but they worked for about a mile and then went out again now i cant get them to come on at all.

Would be great if someone had, just seems odd how playing with the switch got them to come on. is there a control unit for them? Being CANbus i would imagine there is, just a thought if that may be the problem.

Any fix for this? Or is it really a set of fuses, can anyone tell me what fuses? Mine are only working in the auto setting.
