D4 SDV6 engine "shudder" on cold start-up |
|
This is my first post chaps so hope its in the right category.
Had the car for a couple of months now and its fantastic.
However, I noticed that when starting the car for the first time on a cold morning - typically minus 5 to 0 deg C,
the engine fires OK but for a couple of seconds the engine "shudders", a bit like a misfire, before it settles to idle speed. There are no warning lights and the car runs fine. If the engine is warm, there is no problem.
Booked car in at dealer, they could reproduce the problem, there were no fault codes so they fiddled with the power module I think they called it and suggested that I monitor the issue.
Car now goes like a rocket but problem remains. Called dealer again and was advised to take it back for more fiddling. They said that there had been a technical bulletin regarding this issue.
Anyone heard about this and any thoughts as to what it might be ?
Thanks

Happens to mine, so be interested to know what they find. More interested to hear there is a technical builtin. Anyone know which one it is?

Mine does it too.. I assumed it was just a 'feature' of the start system.
Will also be interested to see what they say Cheers Ian

Mines the same. Didn't think it was a fault but will stand corrected if the dealer 'fixes' it.

mine does it too. Is it possibly because the D4 starts with the start button rather than key and the electronics are warming the glow plugs for the smallest possible amount of time rather than several seconds like you would with a key on a D3?

Mine does this when it's really cold and I did wonder about the lack of time firing the glow plugs. MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

If you press the start button without the brake pressed, wait 8 seconds and then press the brake and the start button is the stumble as bad (trying to check if one can emulate the behaviour pre start button) ?

Thanks everyone for your input.
At least I'm not on my own with this issue.
Even though the temperature has gone up a bit in this part of the world, the "shudder" is still there first thing in the morning.
Glow plug theory is a possibility, in fairness though the glow plug lamp is on for several seconds before the starter motor turns.
PSC - will try your tip re: start procedure tomorrow.
linxray - am sure its not FBH cutting in - I have "poverty spec" GS !!
Anyway, taking it to dealers on Wednesday - will report back on the outcome.
Cheers

My D4 does the same, if it's really cold it seams to tremble for a couple of seconds. Every time its been below -2, my 2nd service is due end of march so will mention it to the dealer.
