Temperature gauge and as if choke is out.

Every so often I have an issue in which my temperature gauges drops of fthe scale and eventually after about 10 minutes returns to normal. During this time the engione runs as if with the choke out (high revs even when idle) which seems to be intelligent normal behaviour if the car thought it was starting from cold.
I beleive it might be a sensor of some sort. Does anyone know exactly what sensor it would be?

Cheers in adavnce

Yep, Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. Not expensive and easy to change too.

Yes no job is complete without a good cup of tea, so a 10 min job it is. The ECT moved about a bit, depending on model year.

Understood but only the ECT sensor feeds the dash needle and the OP's is showing inaccurate readings.

Yep I agree that a good temp needle, poor running and erratic oil temps would prompt me to replace the oil temp sensor.

But that is not what the OP is describing so the ECT remains my first choice.
