When should threads be locked?.
Should threads be locked arbitrarily by the mods or should there be a poll of members first.Displaced Yorkshireman.

Mods' job, when things get stupid. Not stupid when the peeps banging heads together think it's stupid (which they never will) but when the "normal member" thinks it's stupid. Well the mods have nothing better to do.

I was surprised that a vibrant thread with so many posters and shared views was locked with no warning and no reason.
I don't think you've shown the members of the thread a lot of respect there, DG.

I enjoyed the discussion on the central subject but sadly you took it from a specific question about head-wear to wider statements about Muslims in particular. I have a responsibility to judge where the lines in the sand lie for the greater good of the site and respect for all its users from all backgrounds.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

But the discussion of Muslims was not offensive. It was just discussion.
At which point did you specifically think that the discussion was not benefitting the forum?
(It's good to know these things, for future reference of course.)

LJW I shan't be drawn into a post-mortem.....the thread was locked for the reasons I have stated above.
This site is overridingly about unifying those who have a common interest in a car...it is global ...it welcomes all.... it respects all ..... participators in off topic threads have to be mindful of that 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

That is what the Mod's - that is MODERATOR's - are there for. It is a bloody hard job to do properly and you seldom get thanks. This forum is very lightly moderated and generally very friendly - lets keep it that way......
