So who got stuck in the snow?
Had a great time up on Exmoor went through some pretty heavy stuff no problem even on the crap Wranglers. headed off down this narrow lane virgin snow HDC on no probs. Then I came to this pretty steep hill must have been at least a 1 in 3 or 4 a tractor had been up and down and so mushed it up a bit, was doing great until I came up to a virtual hairpin with a really heavy camber halfway round the bend and that was it spinning and heading for the bank sideways. Nowhere to go managed to stop but trying to pull away again slid into the bank Finally managed to pull away by steering left and right quickly and had to back down the hill thank god the HDC works in reverse still well scetchy though due to camber. Got to the bottom and got out to have a look at the damage expecting the worse nothing not even a scratch how I got away with that god only knows both rear wheels covered in mud from the encounter with the bank both sides, so looks like just the wheels saved the bodywork

as hard as I tried .... couldn't get stuck.
Went up to Devils Dyke on the South Downs near Brighton ..... couldn't see more that 50m due to the low cloud/falling snow.
I did manage to spot lots of stupid people though ...... 2wd .... bad idea .... 4wd with low profile tyres (aka BMW X5) .... bad idea ... things that looks 4wd but are really 2wd (Qasqai, Volvo xc60) ... bet they wish they had taken the 4wd option!
Why do these people think that going up a steep hill in the snow is a good idea?
What I enjoyed the most was the knowing nod from other discovery drivers (and there were plenty of them)
The nod that says ..." yes, we have the best car in the world" Despite the cost of living, it remains as popular as ever!

Quite agree with Zook nothing but a big 4x4 John Deere tractor or a Caterpillar would have got round that bend and all the way up that hill, it was one steep mother of a hill and if not for the hairpin bend the Disco would have made it I'm sure, everything has its limits 8)

I popped out for a run through the lanes over Epsom Downs and Walton-on-the-Hill ...the D4 and Pirelli Ice & Snows performed absolutely flawlessly on steep snow covered lanes ....really gave me a buzz.
Only real casualty I saw was an XC90 driver who took a keen interest in a hedge while turning into a lane a bit to fast for the conditions ....I can only but imagine the depth of the bramble rash 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

SCARY FIRST TEN MINUTED
Left home , country lane ,drifted around first corner (10mph) what fun !! Onto long straight section, accelerated, then braked to measure stopping distance HOLY F--K. This thing aint stopping !! Soon realised that 90 degree turns are more 45 degrees above 10mph. Lesson learned, no harm done but respect is needed !!Discovery 3 HSE 55 plate Buckingham Blue with Alpacha
Discovery 300 TDI auto, one of the last, now gone
Freelander 2 gs manual, from new, now gone
Defender td5 full county pack, from new lovely lovely, now gone
Defender 110 12 seater 300tdi no heater, good prep for antarctic, now gone
various old farm landies, what a way to learn to drive !!!
They are not invincible, staying on the black stuff (well its black underneath) is as much about the driver, not just the car
I've had Landy's for over 20 years, early series right through to the Disco, no doubt this is the most capable stock variant with all the electronics etc that aid the driver, but it cannot compensate for all rapid changes to throttle or braking force in these conditions
Like when green laning you have to drive to the conditions and think about what your going to do in advance, failure will come if you out drive you thinking
Stay safe all and enjoy, like the YouTube vid Gareth has put up, often others will be the problem.Altox GSM FBH controller thread

Took my D2 out on the same snowy track that I tested my D3 out on when I'd first got it. Cruised up and down, no problem, though to be fair the snow wasn't half as deep as it was with the D3.
Drove past droves of people who'd got stuck trying to get up the hill and were forced to turn back. When I got to the top, there were 3 other vehicles up there. Two of them were LR products (a Deafener and a FFRR), which says a lot. The other was a ScoobyDoo Forrester.2001 D2 GS (I must be mad!)

We had a good bimble round and about the North Downs way and surrounding areas. We were going down a very steep snow covered hillside road with a BIG drop off on the left. Had a Peugeot behind being bullied by a white van behind him! We pulled over and let them past, getting some abuse and international "hand Gestures" from said white van man. He had snow socks on the front and was obviously of the opinion that he was invincible. We carried on behind him, using HDC and GGS probably at around 10mph ( It was that necessary!) Just around the corner we see the same van parked 90 degrees to the road, front end cuddling foliage and a small tree. Ali and I were ourselves laughing and were going to offer to recover him but he wasn't happy. So we sat there and watched him wreck the front of his van further, wheel spinning like a total until he got it straight ish and drove off. We may be slow, but we got everywhere we wanted to today. With events like that, you need a Blackvue - shame him publicly
