Not really Spotted D3.... but I was driving a D3!! |
|
On my Drive to Manchester yesterday afternoon, I spotted two unmarked police cars between junction 15 and 16 on the M6. Now normally that stretch and onwards up to 19 is too busy for anyone to do any speed greater than 50, but yesterday (because of the snow ) it was running quite well, not that I need to speed given I'm driving my D3 that cruises so well.
One had pulled a X5 ...... nuff said
What I did noticethough was the reg's
VX55*** and BX53*** one was volvo, the other a Vauxhall.
Two interesting things came out of my trip to Manchester and back home....
1) I don't know where VX and BX are registered?
2) ON my way through Birmingahm (popped in to see an existing client on the way back down this morning) I spotted two Left hand drive Freelander 2's with VX55 plates - one with zebra markings all over......
So my questions are.... Do I need help.... Did I imagine this..... What is VX55 reg?
Confused.... Richard

By the magic of cumbustion engine and metalled roadway
No..Rich, it's just a point of registration... there are up to three regional offices per Suffix letter each looking after a group of the secondary letters. I guess they were just far from home perhaps. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I wasn't trying hard to appear dim..... ok I wasn't trying!
I suppose my point was.......
Watch out for the police on the M6 and those Zebra marked Freelander 2's ..... must be prototypes or early production versions as they has VX55 plates
Going to bed soon..... Richard......

The police on the M6 are using an unmarked silver Skoda. Don't be fooled by the badge, its very very fast.

Are you suggesting we try and out run a skoda.........
While I'm sure the D3 could do a good job a few years ago, some of the new ones.... wow! its just not worth it.
My point was..... acting as a speed camera....(don't get me started) you have to be very aware to notice an umarked police in your mirror! Richard......

Yes you are right.
Generally, I do go faster than 70, but not much faster than anybody else. The unmarked brigade seem to go after the aggressive speeders who tailgate other motorists.
If I get pulled over for doing 84mph at a safe distance from the car in front, when the weather is good, then I've been unlucky.

Not advocating the speeding.... traditionally I don't, certainly not in villages, towns or inner citys, I live in a 30/20 zone and the number of people I've shouted at on the school run (for us a walk) mean I understand every village/town with a speed limit. Motorways I think are up for debate, as long as the speed is suitable for the road conditions and the road junctions/traffic/idiots!
I don't do a huge amount of mileage a year but my clients pan from Plymouth to Birmingham to Doncaster to Manchester to Newcastle to Edinburgh to Aberdeen.... and Enidhoven! but If I worked for the police then I hate to think how many people I could catch over the speed limit..... and how many were driving within the limits of the suitable road surface and speed...... Its a big discussion but not really relevant to D3's, my experience with D3 drivers is that the speed is not that important Richard......

Gareth,
In the time it took me to reply..... Agree with you. I tired it today (don't tell anyone)
While the traffic was fighting with the lorrys (and I actually don't have a problem with the lorrys as long as they're not on the phone or stray lanes.....)
I had to do in excess of 70 to stop a National Express Coach introducing me to the central reservation, but it in reality makes little difference to your journey time. Richard......

I believe that the limit should rise to 80 mph at least...there is a time and place for it though.
I think the reluctance of the police to raise the limit is based around thier knowledge of what happens when you hit something at those speeds no matter what you are drivng 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
