Steve,

Did this make a big difference to your braking? Is it worth doing? I need new disks and pads on the front so am considering doing this mod whilst I have the lot off.

Presume OK to do front without doing the rear (since the rears don't seem to do much work on a D3), Geoff?

Anybody got a parts lists for the standard TDV6 to V8 upgrade on the front, please?

IMO i would never upgrade the fronts without the rears all to do with emergency straight line braking Thumbs Up

Hi Steve,

I got the parts from Nick (TLO) - The fronts are as follows:

SDB000614 Discs (pair)
LR019618 & LR019625 Fr Pads
SEH500013 Caliper carrier brkts

All in about £240 ish

Personally, I'm glad I got them done. Huge difference in feel and stopping power. Personally, I'd do the fronts and the rears. might have issues with brake balance if you only do the fronts. There could be safety implications with that set up? Finally, "You can NEVER have too much brakes" so to speak Thumbs Up

its not a hard job to do pretty straight forward to be honest Thumbs Up steve,s was a little more difficult he had a screaming epb so the faultmate come in very handy plus it helped when i took all the mud out of the brakes Rolling with laughter

TBH, I would not have an issue upgrading the fronts alone.

What I would not do, is upgrade the rears before the fronts. Can make for some interesting heavy braking Whistle

I know some people who have done fronts only and some heavy testing has had no adverse affects.
Not saying its right, but the car seems to balance itself well.

Personally I'd do all four, but each to thier own. Thumbs Up

Just an update :-

If anyone is thinking about doing this upgrade then my advice to you can only be -

DO IT!!! The difference is so noticeable. The feel and progression at the pedal give loads of confidence and they do stop the car very well indeed! Highly recommended! Thumbs Up

Just a word of warning, keep an eye on your alloys. I had the V8 upgrade done last year and just recently noticed that my alloys were covered in "fall-out" from the new discs and pads. I managed to get it all off, but it was hard work using G3. I think if I had left it any longer it would have damaged the wheels even more.

Iron-X is good for getting rid of the fallout..turns purple when it reacts with the metal particles.

I never had any alloy issues after I did the V8 front upgrade on my old D3. Why would it be any different to the standard discs/pads in terms of brake dust??

Dont understand that one

Are you restricted on a rim size if you upgrade your brakes from standard to v8. I'm running 17s and 18s at the mo.
