Faultmate issues blank CCF help

Hi all
I posted this on BBS but to be honest I i find answer come seldom and slow if at all there. Sorry Colin!

I am having issues trying to read the ccf on the d4.
The faultmate works fine and no runtime errors in windows
I use the prolific USB serial driver and cable bought from BBS with very latest driver and the 1.10 driver without any difference. Tried all the tips for running windows 7

All other functions like installing VE, updating server with all correct versions of modules, clearing faults on the car, reading faults, reading live data etc works fine

Yet read CCF all appears to be ok while it reads and communicates with the car but each an every box is blank when it shows me the ccf

If I use the other option information within body control it reads the vin number and other info

What could be the issue. I have wasted hours reinstalling and uninstalling everything and even gone upto 131a

Help please
Best Regards Ian

You NEED a serial to used cable that has the FTDI chipset - the ones with the proflific chipset will give you the impression all is well but let you down when it matters - the FTDI ones work ALL the time Thumbs Up

Thanks. It's odd as its been working fine and in the past when it played up it kept crashing or ru time error or VE didn't see it
Will try borrow another laptop with built in serial port
Hope that's all it is
Best Regards Ian

If you get a run time error, you need to end ve.exe in the processes tab of Windows Task manager or you run into further headaches when you try to restart VE

I have seen this and had it happen to me, is it when your just reading the CCD file on the D4 and the EUCD file seems to read back in ok. I was doing some MY2012 FM work yesterday and this was doing the same read/write to car in CCD and all boxes show blank until you re-read the settings, but do this in the EUCD section and they all populate when the screen comes back on.

Flack Thumbs Up

Quick update. Bought a new chip USB to serial as suggested. Same issue
cDS could let me know what settings your chip is in transfer speeds in standard and advanced settings?
Thanks
Ian

The simple serial comms between VE and the server seem to be the Achilles heel of this system. I've had many problems especially when trying to upload multiple modules. This is with hardware and drivers which work without fault on other applications.

Ian

I have one of the original bluetooth dongle's that BlackBox made in the early days, I now use this all the time when connected to the cars as this gives me freedom to move about with my CF18 tablet. I now only use my serial cable when updating the server as it always finds the server easier on a serial cable connection than bluetooth when updating.

I run Windows 7 with my BT and even doing the long process of SNOTM its never failed on bluetooth connection so it might be the way to go for you, but you need a really good bt dongle and make sure its password free, BlueSoleil software works well.

Faultmate issues

Did you get to the bottom of your issues with the Faultmate Hids? I'm finding the company slow to respond too, like you, I've spent hours on this.

I'm new to the Faultmate and having problems with mine, I'm trying to update the ccf or ccd as it seems to be on a MY13 D4, whenever I edit the ccd it produces loads of faults, leave it for 5 mins and they all clear except an engine system fault which prevents the car cranking. I saved a backup before I started and I can restore this and all is well again, but obviously without the updates. I've tried a different older laptop which runs windows XP and explorer 7, I've tried re-loading all the modules to the vehicle server, I've tried saving a html editing that then loading it, syncing the ccd to the engine ecu, doing all the above with the car battery charging, non of which work. What's strange is that I can edit the EUCD file fine and write it back to the car no problem (which has successfully enabled TV and memory seats), I can also restore my backup (thank the lord!). So I don't think there is any issue writing files to the car, just editing the ccd. Having written the file to car, when I then view it in vehicle explorer it all looks fine, none of the original settings seem to have changed (apart from the ones I've changed, e.g. enabled rear seat entertainment) or be missing/blank as you describe.

Any help greatly appreciated.
