Warranty renewal (not a LR one)

Hello all,

I have owned my D3 for almost 3 months now, love it! But my warranty is about to run out. I gave 'auto protect' a call who are the people that did the warranty from when I bought it and this is what the quoted.

1 years cover - used unlimited times, unto £1000 a time - £379
2 years cover - used unlimited times, unto £1000 a time - £479

1 years cover - used unlimited times, unto £2000 a time - £419
2 years cover - used unlimited times, unto £2000 a time - £519

Thing that are included are engine (all parts except skimming the head if head gasket goes and silly things like that), turbo, auto box, torque converter, wheel bearings, all electrics, electric motors (wipers, wing mirrors, windows etc) props 4x4 setting etc etc etc.

All seems like a good deal but my question is…

I have a 54 plate D3 with 122,000 miles on the clock. Runs perfectly (although needs new bushes which sods law isn't included)

What would people go for? I'm thinking a 2 year plan, unto £1000 a time as how many problems cost more than £1000 (except a new engine, which from reading up sounds like I should be ok as 80,000 is the magical mile in which engines give up, and I have been told by a few people once they pass this, they are golden for another 80-100,000 miles...

What do people think?

Cheers,

Pete

Look to see if it covers wear and tear. Also whether there is a betterment clause on it. Loads of advice on the warranty and insurance section with varied views. I have warranty direct and so far not needed to use it.

And warrantywise weren't interested when I had 6 new injectors and replacement engine...........

Speaking from very bitter experience, if it doesn't include wear and tear then there is going to be very little they will pay out on with a car of that age and milage, save the money instead.

One option that may be worthwhile is the AA breakdown repair cover, only covers up to £500 and the car must be unfit to continue/start its journey safely, but it is relatively cheap and part of the AA breakdown service, you can get a price on line.

hmmm, warrenty direct will do a year for £540 inc wear and tear (after 3 months of taking out policy) however I have to pay 50% of parts and a £50 excess...

The warranty people im with at the mo, its all free (however they dont cover as much)
Is paying 50% normal? I tried to haggle so he knocked some money off, but said he cant change the fact i need to pay half.

Thanks,

Pete
