Essex County Council Definitive Rights of Way Map 
LRO covered north Essex in the last few issues, possibly December or January - there's a good selection up around Dunmow, Braintree etc.  Tony

Hi.
In my experience there are some really good lanes dotted around the west and southwest of the county. However I would be wary of blindly taking the D3 down many of them. Shes a bit "fat" for many of them - especially if you like your paintwork!!
I have taken the Series 1 down a fair few of them and the undergrowth brushes the mirrors on that! Some of the wider ones can be found along the M11 corridor. but I would avoid anything around Harlow 
Highways have been busy over the last few years and many have road planings as the surface so not difficault traction wise. Road tyres would be no problem for the vast majority IMO.
I agree with Rugged Peaks comments - LRO covered a small selection and these would be a good starting point. If your out at the weekends - watch out for the trail bikes - the greenlane "code" doesnt seem to apply to some of the riders that are out there.
