We bought a FL2 HSE auto in 2007 and its now done about 48K miles. Around town it is very similar to the D3 (19 - 22mpg) on a run if you are careful 36mpg. It is fun to drive, I think it is like a roller skate in comparison to the D3 but I always want to go back to my D3 as it isn't as smooth nor goes it give you that "feel". You can have the same level of luxury albeit with slightly less space by getting one the same companies caravans - the Inos see:- http://www.fifthwheelco.com/inos-caravan/inos.aspx they also now make a single axle van for people that want to tour areas where large vans just wont go! LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

Ali is getting between 28-30 everyday use. Hers is the SD4 with the 190bhp just for info. Won't compete with the Leon but it is still an LandRover lol. This is communting, short trips, loaded up with kids and kit when traveling between places too. on a run, 35mpg is quite realistic. Hope this helps?

I have seen the Inos twin and single axle. This was my original idea when I have a disco but were too expensive at £38,000.
I got the fifth wheel at a bargain price that is why I bought it. The Inos is nice but nowhere near as much storage as the rambler.
I will prob stick with what I have got for a while and see as the fifth wheel is great and don't need to put up an awning which is better for weekends away.
The idea of a 7 seat range rover sounds quite nice Also a member of avforums.com

The trailer is a nifty piece of kit, if one likes caravans. I tend to be in Clarksons camp... I cannot see the point in dragging such a thing around as long as one is not a traveller by descent . I prefer a house for many reasons, as I prefer a Disco over a Nissan [owned 7 of them...]. That a house isn't by definition more expensive as a caravan is easily proven http://www.bci.cgd.pt/en/ . The good thing is ; this place is sunny when it rains in the UK. Flights are from GBP15 per person, and the dogs can stay as well... Beats a caravan for me I can understand the choice for budgetary reasons ; no council tax on a trailer...

I ended up buying a Nissan Qashqai. I was in the showroom whilst my Navara went in for its first service and likes the space and overall quality. I got a top spec Tekna with leather, heater seats, BOSE sound system etc. It a great little car and 1.6 diesel 130bhp is a better engine than the Seat with the 6 speed box, it drives better and comifer. Well I've had the van for 18 months now and still loving it. Went to France last year and toured around, van size isn't too much of a problem although the French sites aren't neatly laid out like the Caravan Club so had a few tight spots.
You don't see many fifth wheel vans and it gets a lot of attention.
I'm off to France again for the school hols, it's nice to travel round with friends, very sociable in France, only use the van for sleeping in.
even the Navara isn't too bad, a good spec and does the job of pulling the beast, getting around 18-20mpg when towing 4 tonnes. Also a member of avforums.com

^^ not sure that it can "legally"!! Tow capacity for a navara seems to be between 2.5 & 3 tonnes depending on model and age. So it maybe squeeky bum time if pulled over with the trailer fully loaded!!
